Wheel Refurb - Pre/Post Pics and Longevity

Grr....just wrote and then lost a massive post. Ho hum....

Right, I'm hoping to get my wheels sorted in advance of Stanford Hall and have read up on several options available.

Ideally, I'd like to take them somewhere that will strip them back completely, make any slight repairs (if needed) and where I can specify the colour. From reading on here and MF, there seems to be a number of options but I am keen to hear from and, in my dreamy little world, see pics of pre and post refurb wheels and also get an idea of how they are baring up over time. I hope to keep the GS for a while and really only want to do this once, if possible.

From my readings, the places currently being considered are:

Dem's mate (will PM you Dem, if this is the chosen route)
Pristine Wheels in MK (used them before, but for Diamond Cut)
Lepson's in Kent
GrayPaul, Notts
Some fella that apparently does HRO's, but he's mobile (surely, they wouldn't be stripped correctly?)

I'd really appreciate seeing a bit of a dump of information but, more specifically, some before and after shots and some intel on how they're lasting.

All help appreciated and I'll be sure to post up my before/after shots when I finally get them done.

Cheers
Woody

Graypaul use the Wheel Specialists who are around the corner. It's where I had mine done, though I went direct. Depending on finish, budget between £80 and £100 per corner. Stripped back, repaired, coated lacquered and baked. All turned around within the day. Just my opinion, but I was impressed with them. Shame I've since kerbed one!

Emtee, do you have any before/afters shots?

I've got the number of the lad who does HRO's wheels somewhere....I should perhaps give him a bell.

That does look very nice!

I started the thread on PH but thought I'd ask on here for specific examples (the above is great, thanks!).

We were all very impressed with the finish on Ascotts Gransport which was done at Lepson's in Kent.

Currently a thread on pistonheads FMLB forum,

Again lepson's get the big thumbs up. I guess there is no other way to go!

haha.... yep, Woody was taken on PH so I went for the other name I use. I used to be LittleBro on there but people assume you're 14 and on half term so swiftly changed that!

My local village bodyshop do mine for £200 cash a set and they are as good as anyones, never flaked, had maybe 4 sets done and the odd repair due to me being a f**kwit and not concentrating when parallel parking.

Siddlesham bodyshop, speak to Nin and mentions Maserati Matt, he'll know who your talking about - 01243 641844. You can leave the car with them for 2 days of just drop the wheels off. If anyone needs taking to the train station, just drop me a PM.

I am a picky begger so I would not accept nothing but the best. They also do tarting up for the local Porsche garage, so their work is quality.

I've used the Wheel Specialist in North London (Enfield way) a couple of months ago. http://www.thewheelspecialist.co.uk/File/NLondonFinchleyContactDetails.php I'm around the same neck of the woods as you and was able to drop the car off in the morning, tube into work and the reverse on the way back, so worked very well.

The end result seems to be very good, they have a fair selection of colours and finishes to chose from. Too early to say so far how well it'll last but no reason to think it won't, and it's guaranteed for 12 months as standard.

One fly in the ointment, I had to go straight back because one wheel was way off balance and was causing vibrations over around 55 mph. A pretty unimpressive error, but corrected on the spot with profuse apologies from Paul, the manager there, who dropped more than a hint that he'd look into the incident and it would be dealt with fully. I wouldn't let this deter you (I'd use them again), but feel free to mention my name - I'm sure he'll remember as he doesn't do Masers every week - to get him to make doubly sure it's a job well done.

Thanks Matt. I think Chichester is a bit far for me, but I'll keep it in mind, thanks.

Thanks for that Andrew, I've put in a query.

I think they do some interesting finishes - its between Black Chrome and Racing Purple. :)

Oof, I know. I hope you checked these out too: http://www.thewheelspecialist.co.uk/File/worldofwheels.php ! Not really my cuppa Rosie, but horses for courses.

I think I ended up with Hi-Power Silver. I originally quoted for TWS Silver, but when I went along to take a look before booking in we decided the Hi-Power was a closer match. Paul did it for the original quote, although ordinarily it would have been slightly more.

They've ended up with more of a shine than the matt powdery finish I had previously, but I kind of like it now I'm used to it.

Hi Woody, If it's any help, mine are black chrome. In some lights (and when clean :D ) they look almost silver, but in other lights, they look almost charcoal. The only difficulty with the flake finishes is in getting the centre caps correct, as they can't use the same paint system on plastic. They can get them pretty close though. Cheers, Miles.

Thanks Miles - getting the centre caps to match - thats something I'd taken for granted!
