A brief message to ask the comined wisdom if any one knows where I could find a front alloy wheel for a gransport? I am trying to avoid having to purchase a brand spanking new one from a main dealer! Eurospares are not listing any available which was my initial thought. Any ideas very welcome.

Thanks

Hi Scott
We havent got any second gransport wheels here.
These wheels are actually on backorder as well, so if you do find someone with a few it might be worth grabbing what you whilst you can.
I have been told that BBS are in a bit of trouble financially, they could be close to going under.........

Cheers

Hi Scot, was speaking to Simon (SimonM) yesterday at Ace and he has had a lot of problems with cracked alloys on his GS, he had them welded up but they keep going flat, so he bit the bullet and bough a new one, £700 or something silly, he looked for ages for a salvage one with no joy so ended up bitting the bullet and buying new.

He also told me yesterday that he has cracked another one now!

Scot, there was a guy in Germany selling lots of wheels a while back, can't remember if he had any GS's though....will check for a link and post it up for you to enquire.

£700 for a fragile type wheel aint good news.

In the short term Miles there certainly will be problems if they go under, its my guess that the designs will be sold off as part of the break up and bought up by another wheel manufacturer , but that will be in the not to distant future ,as you say we'll be truly bugggered in the meantime and some big names at that

Can't you get it repaired at a specialist? I was told my pot holed damaged fronts were unrepairable. If you're in the same boat try taking to a proper engineering company?

Well, Simon did and they failed. Suppose its not really worth it.

he hasn't said what the reason he needs a replacement is. It's worth investigating before shelling out £700 for a wheel :>)

Suppose nothing ventured and all that. My only concern is safety. If a wheel is cracked, what to stop it from shearing?

Agreed if cracked but if only bent then it may be a possibility?
Scott what's the damage!

What tends to happen with these BBS wheels , is they hairline crack for about 20mm from the inner inside outer rim to the first lip , its generally easily solved by drilling a whole at the end of the crack ( to prevent it splitting any further), the hairline crack is then prepared and then filled in with alluminium welding , and then machined to shape , if it was anymore than that i would go for a new/another wheel , especially if its a front one , last thing i would want is to be doing mega speeds on a suspect front wheel ,
