Had custom Down pipes with sports cats fitted today. In words of the exhaust guy “that car sounds fu@£ing awesome” and to be fair it’s not too shabby for a 4 door saloon. Proper test comes on Saturday with a trip to Norfolk and back to see an old friend.
Next up, waiting for the big brake kit I ordered this week to turn up and see if I can confirm the pad size and order some CL pads.
Ooooh! More details, please. And some audio.

I originally tried to get an x pipe from Larini however having waited months I ended up cancelling it and went to a local custom exhaust place who took out the centre muffler but kept the x-pipe configuration. It seemed to make a bit of a difference and that got me starting to think about high flow cats. Tried Larini again, still no help so went back to my local place who knocked up a custom set with 200cell high flow cats and fitted it all for less money than the Larini parts alone. The car already had the highest tune that Celtic do on standard cars (they advised that I wouldn’t need anything else until I uprated the turbos and intercoolers plus the tune would learn the different flow and not put the engine light on (so far so good)). Traffic and camera’s stopped me from really playing but it sounds a lot more aggressive when accelerating and definitely seems to spoil up quicker/sooner. Start to feel the boost at just after 2000 rather than 3000 rpm. Will make a recording from cold to get proper effect. To be fair though once it’s warm and idling it’s not over the top IMO.

As for brakes.. Stephen at toole autos was amazing. Started getting wheel shake through the front brakes. Managed to hold off replacing them by re-honing them however it was only ever going to be a quick short fix and so the search was on for something better. Front kit consists of new brembo callipers, flexi lines pads and drilled and grooved discs. After a few measurements and back and forward to the factory we worked out that the 405mm disc would fit the Urano alloys.
Also ordered the chassis bolt collars while I was at it…. Car now has pretty much every suspension upgrade I can think of with the exception of the standard shocks.

Not sure I want to admit this but here goes… the callipers are going to be yellow

Well, not only today, but yesterday as well. Down in the Workshop was I, down the garden, enjoying a quiet ***.
Frowned, some damned car with a loud alarm.
Bu%%er, it's the GT on the forecourt.
Fob, unlock, lock. Nothing
Sinking feeling
Unlock? Nooooo, manual key, and in.
Ignition on, driver cluster flashes, date and time lost.
Ominous click from starter motor
Alarm restarts
Boot button, not a chance.
Buttocks tightening
Firk around, dim memory of bowden cable boot release, open.
Hook up charger, few minutes, disable alarm.
On charge, after 2 hours still under condition
Left on Charge 1630 -> 20:30
Ignition: she fires, but still not full charge.
Date/Time set and GPS locks
Buttocks unclench.
Leave her running to regain starter current.
Get her back topped up:-
The usual triangle, Stow on the Wold, Burford, London Road to Northleach, back up the Fosse Way to Bourton, and cut off across the top back home.

Restarting this morning, cleaned, and put on charge until healthy.

Moral:
Look after the lady, don't leave her a week, and certainly top her up if the majority of trips are night runs, start stop through the delights of Birmingham

Bless her

It's pouring rain here. I went into the garage, looked at the MCV....and just smiled, that's all!

Do love you key. I assume when you returned there was a Mercedes Sprinter parked within 3 nm?

C
For once nobody parked up against me! I did only pop in for 30 mins though… not that it usually makes any difference!

Parked it up for a few days after stretching it legs again. 30mpg this time albeit only a 70 mile drive!

30 mpg?? How the heck do you achieve that?

Is yours an auto? Mine is MC shift

Best I’ve had was 26mpg on cruise control through a long 50mph roadworks on the M1.

Cannot get better than 17mpg since.

Today I decided to do something about the sticky clamshells around the steering column of my 3200. I removed them and stripped the old finish off with isopropyl alcohol and some small scrappers. Having removed most of it like that I finished up with a fine wet and dry. Tomorrow I’m going to repaint them with black Plastidip.

Yes it’s a Sport Auto and on my journey there were lots of 50 and 60mph zones. I kept the car out of Sport mode just to see what it would do.
