bloody contactless cards, don't like em and the bank still sends them to me, got myself a JCB rfid blocking wallet a few weeks ago, apparently these chips emit all sorts of info that criminals can scan and use for id theft

sigh The chips don't emit anything unless you scan them. Which you need to do from very close range and separate from all the other cards you're carrying around. And then they only contain you bank card details. Pretty much like reading them off the card.....

Ummmm
Yes
But I'm sure it was a cash transaction so ;)

There's a few theoretical ways of eavesdropping on the comms, but it's probably easier to bop the card holder over the head and steal the bloody thing....

But even if you could copy it, all you'd end up with is a copy. Which would allow you to make payments <£30 right up until the card holder noticed, cancelled it and got the bank to pay them all the money back.

I also have an rfid blocking wallet. Not because I wanted the rfid thing, I just liked the wallet. It’s annoying as my rfid security cards for work now need to removed from my wallet before I can use them.

Think of the money visa et al are now making, and retailers are paying, because of our fixation with cashless transactions. I’m in the wrong business. Again.

I also have a Secrid for exactly the same reasons. It's a good wallet. Someone could make one with the same pop out, but 50% of the thickness of the RRID screen, that would be lovely!

I have always loved a bit of cash (comes from a childhood where he had none, or very little I guess).
I always get £200 from the cashpoint and it will last as long as it lasts which can be days or weeks depending on what I am up to.
My kids don’t carry cash using cars and phone to pay for everything, my wife only ever uses my cash !!
I do find myself paying more and more on contactless but like someone has said earlier, someone somewhere will be making something from data.

What about prostitutes then and drug dealers? We are gonna still need cash for those.

Actually that just reminded me, I was on a work trip to Plymouth, and asked this lass for directions, and mithered her a bit too much I think, cos she got a bit shirty and and said;

'Do you mind, I'm a working girl - it's £40 for a blow-job.....'

I thought she said £14 so quick as a flash I said;

'So £15 including the tip?'

Which I thought was dead funny but she didn't.

Hoping for a raft of prostitute stories now....

Bitcoin will be the way to pay them.

Around where I work everywhere takes cards and I use cash rarely. It’s changing fast though. A cafe near us only takes cards now, won’t take cash. No till on the counter, just a little white pad to tap your card on.
