What happened to money?

The queue at the bar last night was getting longer and longer as one of the card readers had packed in.
This prompted a train of thought as to how often I actually use cash.
Even an old dinosaur like me uses the Contactless system.
The taxi driver had no change and wanted me to use a card
On and on it goes
Is this the end of cash?
I normally carry about £50 -£100 in my wallet and now I think on it, it stays there quite a while!

I am not sure I miss cash, the only good thing about using cash in your pocket is that when you £100 in notes runs out you know you have spent that much, with contactless, well....
But yes i think cash will become increasingly irrelevant and then there are crypto currencies, will we all end up trading in borderless countryless currencies?
In Scotland i will miss the comedy element of our notes because all the banks print their own notes and its hilarious but other than that.

It’s being planned for, as once it’s gone there’s no way to hide transactions.....big brother then knows everything.....what you have, where it is, how much and what you owe.
Also makes it very easy to “bail you in” when things go wrong.
Funnily enough those with **** all or who are indebted up to their eye balls wont give a toss.....as they have nothing to lose anyway.
Just savers, who did the right thing.....

Do I have a brother I don’t know about?

I still prefer to use cash primarily as I see it disappearing whereas card transactions often get forgotten until the bank statement arrives

I also carried £50 on me. Then realised it was simply getting transferred from suit to suit. I now leave it at home to pay for the cleaner or window cleaner, or take some for the barber.

What about prostitutes then and drug dealers? We are gonna still need cash for those.

Actually that just reminded me, I was on a work trip to Plymouth, and asked this lass for directions, and mithered her a bit too much I think, cos she got a bit shirty and and said;

'Do you mind, I'm a working girl - it's £40 for a blow-job.....'

I thought she said £14 so quick as a flash I said;

'So £15 including the tip?'

Which I thought was dead funny but she didn't.

Hoping for a raft of prostitute stories now....

Working girl once told me that the jobs came easy but that it was usually hard work... She enjoyed the tips!

Keeping using cash...…………..otherwise the banks will know every penny you spend, how and when you spend, and that will be "anonymised" and sold off - data is the new gold - .

Same here, only the other day when the widow cleaner came I was clean out of cash. :oops: No problem he said and produced a mobile card reader!

Thinking of getting one for the school in honesty. About 50% of my students pay direct bank transfer. The rest bring cash. No one's asked yet, but as soon as they do, it's trivial to set up.

cash is king or should I say was king, just returned from a trip with the gals to gunwharf quays and got through shed load of cash, sweet fa for myself as usual, what I find amusing in retail outlets and restaurants is even before you've pulled your wallet out you're presented with the card machine and then the look of surprise when the folding stuff is handed over, both my daughters carry zero cash and totally rely on their bank cards literally for everything even things like chocolate bars, it's as if cash is an alien thing to them, I can't bear leaving the house with no cash at all in my wallet.

With contactless on my phone, I've even stopped taking my wallet out with me these days...
I keep a red note in the car for emergencies, but generally speaking, unless I know I'll need hard currency, I don't bother with it...

I'm mid 40's too, so not some sort of millennial either... speaking of which, how do hipsters manage with money in those stupid tight trousers they all wear?!
