Let alone improvement of tyre life... C, I'm finding 2.2 bar all round about right for the 4200 :)

Well, 2.0 is certainly an improvement on 1.3 so far....[1]
I shall see how it goes, and may well bump it up a bit

C
[1] To be fair, only one was that low. The others were 1.5 1.6 and one was 2.0

They do seem to weep no matter what you do to them. It is a bit of a pain to be honest remembering to check them every couple of weeks. I used to run 2.1 but found the shoulders going home early. 2.3 makes the bumps a bit harsh.

Michelin do a very nice tyre pressure gauge you can get it in Halfords (I think), its the only one that I could find that measures with a resolution of 0.1psi so you can get the tyres exactly the same. The normal ones generally only show 0.5psi change. These cars are enough of a handful without running around with soft tyres!

Amen to that, I think I can attribute my shredded tyre at the wet handling day to under inflation and some enthusiastic driving on the way up!

On the 4200 it does give a pressure guide for speed related pressures, 2.0 bar and 2.2 bar. In this weather I would never suggest going over 2 bar, it's not safe on anything that might be close to ice, too hard and the tyres will just not grip. Fine for warm dry weather, but seriously watch it in the cold, wet and ice.

I've litterally just checked and filled mine ahead of the weekend and set them at 2.2, I'm sure that on these massively wide tyres wit very hard and shallow sidewalls, and under pressure just allows them to drop in to the middles. I think if you want winter grip, bite the bullet and fit winter tyres, they are designed for just that after all.

I find you can get some useful warmth into the tyres even in cold conditions, but yes very slippy the first couple of miles :) that is what I got on the wet handling day for... :)

I'm sticking with mine at 2 bar, (up to 150mph), I don't think I will need to go faster than that in this weather..!! Don't forget you can stick at least 2 psi in these with the heat when you are on motorways etc.

Well there's always the Porsche 959 route of glued on tyres (4 hours to fit each), hollow wheels an pressure management on the fly! but at over £1k a tyre and only 1 trained UK mechanic who can fit them, based at Reading, I'll pass on that :)

That's a disappointing website... not what I was expecting! car racks indeed!

Tyre pressures vary a little depending on the make. I've had P Zero Rosso's on my GS and the rears were set at 2.2 as prescribed, but though I had even tyre wear, and so am happy that the geo' is well set, the wear was down the centre of the tyre, so slightly over-inflated. I'm swapping to the new Falken 453's just now, and will try them at 2.2 to begin, but won't be surprised if I end up dropping down a little once I can measure the rate of wear.

2.2 is great for fast driving and cornering, that's what I used in the 32 when we did the Monaco Run and roadholding was great. For general tramping up and down motorways and the like and in particular when slippery road conditions are about, I definitely use 2 bar. Remember the trouble I had Miles when we hit snow in France and the pressures were up..??
Even in the Jeep when we have really thick snow, I drop the pressures on that to get a bit more soft rubber down.
