Urgent help needed: GS brakes stuck on!

Chaps,

Need some urgent help.

Following on from my post a couple of weeks back when the GS lost drive and left me in the outside lane of the M1 (in crawling traffic), I thought I'd have a look at her today.

I opened up the garage, fired her up all ok, no dash lights, selected a gear and it moved forward a foot and then locked up, like the brakes were ceased.

I've tried a battery re-set, with no joy. It starts fine but won't budge and I'd rather not leave its nose sticking out the garage overnight. Would love to get it moved.

Is there electronic brakes or something that I can disarm? It does feel like the hand brake is on, but I don't normally leave the handbrake on when it's in the garage.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Woody

Sounds like a delaminates shoe after all this wet weather Woody sorry...

Chock the fronts, jack it and get the drums off, you can move it without shoes fitted and even drive it but you MUST remove all the mechanism except the cable... If you don't it will munch it.

Hello mate,
I had the same problem before once.
I'm not saying I recommend it, but I freed up the brakes by rocking the car gently forward and back in first gear and in reverse.
I'm sure there is a smarter and neater way to do it, but just letting you know that it worked for me.
Cheers,
Pat

ps - in my case the brakes had definitely ceased up, I guess you are not 100% sure that this is the case for you?

If you moved forwards a good foot it does not sound like your breaks were sized on...could it be a fault with the hill hold???

Oh, I hope not! If that is the deal, I suspect they're done anyway. Oh dear....

I'm not sure. They have mildly ceased in the past if I haven't used the car for a couple of week which is why I don't put the handbrake on, generally, when in the garage. The handbrake does feel like its high or poss not working. I tried the back and forth earlier.

Hmm..possibly. I know there's sensors on different parts that link to the hill hold (a previous faulty baring meant the hill hold didn't work). Is there a way if disarming the hill hold? A fuse removal perhaps?

If it is an electronic issue you could try a reset as on switching itself back on if there was something outside parameters it would flag it as a warning, i suspect it is more mechanical and handbrakes are more likely culprit. if one had delaminated on your last trip they can sit all innocently in the drum, the short reverse into the garage could be all it needed to move it and driving out today could lock it into place... More or less how mine went!

Yeah, I'm leaning toward this. Was it a big job to sort out?

Woody, it will be your handbrake shoes. They ripped off when you pulled away then wedged together in a rotation of the rear wheel.

Nothing serious, £35 relined by GB Bonding contact Parisien for details.

And get shoes relined too.......at same time as you're going to be waiting for a few days

Ok, thanks gents. It'll be a job for Mcgraths I expect.

How do you move the car? It's in a single garage. Is it trolley jacks all around?

Woody, don't think it needs an indie.......any decent mechanic can manage it

OK. Will have a ring around am.

Not happy waving the garage door ajar overnight. My baby isn't use to sleeping with the doors open!
