Having an early 4200 myself, currently completely stock (apart from Larini's), I really don't know what he was doing! or yes I do...
Yes it does have a slow 'nodding' gear change, but only if you change gear below 5,000 while accelerating, and more so if not in Sport mode. Above 5,000 in sport, full throttle, it is quick to change gear.
Interesting how the Stig in very wet conditions kept it in a straight line, but Clarkson couldn't in the dry. When I tracked mine the grip really did surprise me to be honest, but they do roll a lot, I agree, more set up for the American market Maserati was aiming for.
In my case a FD DBW module is on its way back to me across the Atlantic as we speak, and I really wish to replace the springs.
Both these mods should remove the 'nodding' totally I hope, and eliminate the roll.
Job done then!

Yes one of Clarksons idiot moments.

Look on the bright side I say, he single handedly put off hundreds if not thousands of potential owners, forcing the prices down and keeping them exclusive.

If anyone with any of knowledge about supercars cars took any notice of his reviews....then they are by no means petrolheads or even remotely knowledgable about cars full stop............

The measure of that Matt would be......pro rata, head of population/wealth, were fewer 4200/GSs sold in Uk compared to other major European countries?

I thought that Top Gear has such an effect on (super)car purchases, that some manufacturers won't allow their car to be driven round the Top Gear Track on time trial unless the manufacturer's own test driver does the lap (dressed up as the Stig of course).

he only likes cars he owns, how many times have you seen him say "its the best car in the world today" next week its the same but another car. Merc seem to be his choice. - i dont listen to a word he says - fifth gear is miles better and VBH is nice to look at and drives like a racer - Clarkson isnt and cant.

He can't drive so ripped it to bits after he turned off the traction control, try sharp bends in any car with power and the same will happen, so he rigged that bit on purpose...plonker.

Hi Phil

Cool yes will be good to see you again. I think ill be at Magor services drinking copious amounts of coffee at 8ish as its on my way, I think some others are meeting up.

Ive had an urge to watch more fifth gear since speaking for VBH at the Ferrari day. Did you see the video?

I would not let it bother you - was a long time ago. At least with JC he is outspoken so it is easy to agree/disagree. Some of the other motoring journalists are much more subtle, and successful, at manipulation. eg, the 911 won the Evo Car of the Year award over the McLaren but only if you included Chris Harris' vote and he owned said 911 and left the week after. I wrote a letter to Evo pointing this out but they refused to publish it.

JC is a buffoon. Yes an occasionally entertaining and often likeable one but a buffoon none the less.

His only way of reasoned argument is to shout loudly that you're wrong or similar. Lots of people undoubtedly value his opinion but that says more about them than about him.

Enjoy your 4200. Life's too short!

The 911 might well be the better car, I didn't like the MP4 when I drove one. Not driven a new 911 so can't give an opinion based on experience.

Benny that's a surprise, was the MP4 newish, or on one of those track day jobs..?? The MP4 should outperform the 911 every day of the week, in just about every aspect going.
