Changed the rear Discs and Pads on the 3200 today, the old discs were in a bit of a state for only 50,000 miles !!!
Fitted Ferrari 550 Brembos's and Mintex M1155 pads, the old pads were standard rubbish ones, loads of dust, not much
braking! The new set-up is a huge improvement.

Very nice!
Had my discs skimmed last year so will be looking to do the same next spring. Very reassuring to hear there is a definite improvement in braking performance.
I also had all of my brake lines upgraded, may be worth a check if you have not already done them.

Not a needed for a road car, decent discs and pads is all you need, also quality brake fluid, changed annualy is a
big help to good braking.

Brake lines were not a performance upgrade but less corrosive coated lines. When inspected last year (around 50k miles) the original lines were not in good shape, so upgraded for safety over anything else.
With you on the fluid, often overlooked, get this changed regularly.

Yes the 550 discs are good, as Chris says paint the centre of the disc (I think I see gold paint), they do rust a bit. More drillings on the 550's too, those old ones look rather done in..??

The holes on the old discs were well blocked up, but I think the 550's are slightly larger.

Come on Phil, the paint will wear off the disc as soon as they start to work, you don't need to be picasso..!!

I'll admit to being anally picky but the problem is that the pads don't make contact with the discs that close to the drum so it will never wear off. Also of course if you look through the wheels in this part it is visibly very obvious that he used the cats tail to paint it.

I believe that was done on purpose, so that when the discs wear off the little wisps, you get a clean line right up to the pad line of wear, well done that man..!!

The 550 discs seem to have much larger holes as well.

The 550 disc holes are also countersunk whereas the originals aren't. This helps to stop the holes clogging with pad material which helps the disc cooling. I paint the disc edges as well to stop rust creeping in from the edge when not used for a while. On my new rears which, hopefully, I'll be fitting shortly, I'll be painting the middle of the rear of the disc to try and stop rust creeping across the handbrake friction area. Every little helps!
