Isn't 5w40 the correct viscosity for the 4200?
20w60 would be either too thick and too thin at the cold / hot temperature range.
From Wikipedia
The SAE designation for multi-grade oils includes two viscosity grades; for example, 10W-30 designates a common multi-grade oil. The first number '10W' is the equivalent grade of the single grade oil that has the oil's viscosity at cold temperature and the second number is the grade of the equivalent single-grade oil that describes its viscosity at 100 °C.

I know someone (who isn’t on here anymore) who used 10-50 on his QP. It apparently stopped the startup rattle.

Logic suggests it might mean it takes a nano second longer for the oil to get around the engine on startup, so change oil viscosities at your peril.

I used 10W60 in my 4200 in New Zealand as directed by Maserati for that side of the World.

I thought NZ had a similar climate to the UK?!?...

Is it so different the UK, and if not qhy the difference in spec?

It rarely freezes in NZ, well in Auckland anyway. It might in the south island or in remote parts.
Certainly can get cold in central N Island and down on S Island.
Had heavy frost a few times when I lived in Auckland too and lots of rain.

I use this oil in my QP6 GTS, its the 5W-40. Had to recently top up. I checked the shell website and it was the one recommended for my car model.

oil for 3200 and 4200 are quite different. 3200 oil get s a lot hotter than 4200, because it cools the turbos, and I think the viscosity makes a huge difference. I use Selenia racing as listed above there are many places that sell it, try E-bay. I have tried Shell Helix but went back to Selenia as its the only one listed by Maserati. I would not mess around with oil, these cars have enough unwanted problems with out creating uneccessary ones.

Shell Ultra Helix is approved too for the 3200 GT. You can just search your specific model car and it will tell you the recommended shell oil. Shell is partner with Maserati and Ferrari so its definitely the right oil. The other good one I would say is the Castrol Edge Titanium which might be even a little better. 61447

I've got some Shell Helix Ultra 10W40 in my garage if anyone is after some for a mutually agreeable price. I have 2 x 5 litres available.

Where's the popcorn ? Another oil war looming.
Don't you guys realise the 3200 engine was designed over 25 years ago when oils were nowhere near as good as those used today ? Do yourselves a favour & use any oil of the right grade, they all have much the same additives in them anyway.
