Tire Size Question

You need to separate the wheel size from the rolling circumference. Depending on your tyre dimensions the winter tyres may well have a smaller rolling circumference which would reduce the overall gearing, making the speedo read higher and allowing a higher engine speed for a given road speed. It would feel faster.

Putting a 335 tyre on the car will have exactly the opposite effect.

I was playing around the tire sizes and this is what I got to make the bigger tires to work. The comparison I did was with a 315 at the rear & 245 ,285 at front tires.6348263484

Yes, that’s pretty much as expected. There is obviously some variance on how they calculate the circumference.

The diagram is quite telling. The 335 tyre is 12.5 inches wide, but your wheel is only 10.5 inches wide. This is going to do all sorts of stuff to the sidewall angle and the shape of the tread band. I would try to curb your enthusiasm for a really wide tyre, maybe go up only one or two sizes.

What they say! I played this game in my youth when I had a 700bhp Pontiac, money and a penchant for excel spreadsheets and calculations. You can get away with around 10% wider tyres, after that you compromise the sidewall loading so 1 inch more only (25mm).
The rolling circumference needs to stay the same to keep your gearing and Speedo readings so going up in width means you go down in profile. That's pi x r squared.
As suspension moves in an arc then getting wider changes the suspension forces and levers. You will either wear the suspension or the inner circumference of the tyres in unpredictable ways. You will also need to sort tyres pressures to allow for changes in weight distribution......adding width by offset is better than by inset so spacers is an ok move.Big tyres.jpg
