All second hand and not as super contrasty as yours or the Mondaine
Eb

I suspect he just ran the search on Watchfinder cos it's got simple filters

Bell and Ross have a simple filter as well:

Just one with a round face:

Mondaine?

The B&R racing bird is round and pretty legible. Really like this one myself.

No - I exaggerated for effect.

But they did say I should get it pressure tested every 2 years. Personally, I think I should expect a seal to be guaranteed not to fail for a little longer than that.

(and when I say little, I mean 'lot'!)

It depends how you use it. Modern case seals can last decades if fitted correctly. If you unscrew the crown a lot to change time/wind etc. then you will wear out the seals or O rings quicker (why auto movements were used so much in dive watches in the early days). If you use the watch a lot in salt water and don’t rinse it afterwards then it can corrode the steel near the caseback seal and eventually eat through into the case.

I understand your logic, and I only ever need to unscrew the crown when travelling (None over last two years!) and when there aren't 31 days in the month, as it keeps perfect time. I just cant understand why the last 4 years were any different to the first 20.

It just feels like the previous repair was not completed as perfectly as when it was originally assembled.

Time will tell. Look out for my follow up post in 2026.

Sadly you are probably right. Hope it works out anyway.

If you (or any other forum member) is interested in using an independent watch repairer, I can highly recommend http://onatelier.co.uk . Olivier has done an amazing job on some of my watches, and for friends as well. His blog is pretty good if you like interesting watches as well. He does everything from battery/pressure tests to restoring vintage dive watches.

A few of my favourites, I have a couple of seikos and smart watches as well.

I have been on the wait list for a GMT for 18 months with Maplin Webb in Chester but have more chance of winning the lottery I suspect...

As mentioned on here the prices of Rolex (probably other marques) have gone ballistic in recent months....Rolex agents have no stock (display models only) adding to huge grey market price increases.
Waiting lists for just about every model now are years long. Some agents have stopped taking names for such.

If you haven’t got a Daytona in your collection now, it’s very unlikely you ever will- at MRP.
I don’t and actually turned one down many years ago in favour of my two tone GMT II. Dual time and a date suited my needs more at the time - as they still do today.

I do however really like the new ceramic Daytona’s and think i’ve come up with a pretty good, inexpensive alternative for a very similar sport chrono “Daytona” look.

It’s got a 2 year international warranty; swimmable to 10ATM or 100m depth so that will satisfy most,; it’s reliable according to reviews ;has a date (which I view as important) and imo looks very very similar.

This is the look I’m trying to replicate......currently Aud $50,000 and beyond , grey market- for a steel watch!!

Mental.

I’ll post when my selected alternative arrives......if it’s as good as I’m anticipating.

Well my Daytona ‘cheap substitute’ arrived and I’m super impressed. They also do a number of other Rolex looking models for those looking for a similar substitute.

Here’s how they compare lookswise. Virtually the same dimensions and depth.

It’s got a good solid feel- and it’s a classy looking watch.

As a reminder;
;it’s got a 2 year International guarantee,
;you can swim to a 100m depth with it on,
;it’s got a reliable Japanese quartz movement,
;it’s got a date....which I love.

They also do a kind of “vintage Paul Newman” style.

Stuhrling currently have a ridiculous sale on -

2 watches- “Pepsi “ look Gmt plus the above.

Comprehensive Watch toolkit (which is fantastic....great for glasses etc too)

For basically, little more than the price of 1 watch.......£211.00.

Oh and International shipping is free!! (And I had no duty to pay!)

Pay them a visit, I think you’ll be glad you did!
