The Granturismo Is No More

I have been away from here for a while so this maybe old news and already discussed. However, I went into my MD this morning and they told me 100% that production of the GT will cease this year. This came from a UK dealership meeting held last week. When the factory has it's shutdown in August, it will only restart production of the GT if the existing stocks on the ground have already been sold and even then, it will not continue beyond October 2016. This is due to new EU emission regulations and whilst existing new stock will be able to be registered in 2017, there will be no GTs manufactured in 2017 and right now, there is not a firm plan in place for the replacement and no word at all on the Alfieri. There will not be a GT facelift and no final edition limited editions, what you see now is what you will get.

Very sad I have to say and poor forward planning

Has anyone heard anything more or the same as this?

FFS......had not heard this Stuart but really no surprise given the lack of ambition that has been evident of late.

I thought there was supposed to be a internal facelift for the GT planned. New multimedia and all that. I guess they are concentrating all their resources on the Levante.

Glad I got mine nearly a year ago now. Can't believe on such a successful for them, stunning well respected car that they haven't put every effort into having the next gen GT ready, no huge changes in looks but updated.

It's pi$$ poor management lets just scrap our most successful car to date (I think) and have boning whatsoever to replace it

Should be good for residuals until the replacement comes out. There may be a rush to snap up new ones too.

Fairly bizarre. Such a stunning versatile car. And for a niche, sporty , respected mark like maserati to be concentrating on things like a Ghibli Diesel and SUV. Crazy.

Interesting, was at my MD last weekend and they said it was been continued, things change glad I have mine already!! Those turbo charged Ferrari's 488 GTB etc. They do not sound the same as the V8 noise these make.

Mmmm, we have heard this before (last year) and it came to nothing. The Euro6 rules have been applied for the last six months so that makes little sense. I wonder if they are just putting dealers on watch as sales volumes are now so low and they don't have the confidence to fit the new V6/V8 engines, ZF 8 speed box and revised infomatics? I would guess that all of this could be dealt with but are the volumes worth it?

The alternative is issues with parts supply as it is the only car still made to use these naturally aspirated engines (4.2 and 4.7), the MC gearbox and, possibly, the ZF 6 speed auto. Time passes.

The bigger story is what they build at Modena as I can't imagine the 4C volumes are enough.............

Good point Bob. So is the Levante being built in Modena? I would have thought not as it makes sense to build it on the Ghibli production line.

So with this in mind, the 4c does not have enough volume to fill Modena so we can assume something new is imminent?

That or Maserati are trying to stimulate a rush in the GT....then release the facelift, unlikely though.

My gut feeling is they will continue the face lift GT.

Shocking. I also just watched a Harry Metcalf video reviewing the Rapide vs the Granturismo and he says the GT is a more spacious car!!

I was thinking about the Rapide as a size upgrade as well!

It really does tick all the boxes and there really isn't anything like it apart from the FF.

So sad.

So far as the existing reg'd cars go, even the 2007 ones, will last another 10 years on looks alone!

Beautiful design and real perfection from every angle.

Parts are normally available 10 years post build date, just look at the 599 GTO etc

I have emailed them twice with no reply, I have a feeling they are not "authorised" Gtechnic agents as dont come up on website, I have been looking at the place in Knaresbrough and next time I have car down here at van I will drop in for an assessment. Have a look at Reep Group Knaresbrough - they have done some stonking cars.

I wonder how many new GT's they sell now....It is a brilliant car but will be 10 years old next year. The technology is old against the competition I suppose so a face lift with maybe the new engine from the QP is needed. If it is right that no replacement that would be sad indeed. No proper sports GT car in the range just isn't right. But as said until you hear officially then its all hear say.
