My late father was a yacht broker and lived for a long time in Cowes. His business brokered all over the South coast and also was an agent for Cranchi, Falcon and Princess. He also managed a couple of really well known ex-racing boats such as the Bear of Britain.

He always used to tell me that the best thing to do with any yacht was to charter it. And let someone else worry about the rest.

And he was in the business of selling them!!!

Didn't some say that earlier? If it moves rent it. Or words to that effect.

One thing I learned from my power boats was that many people are your friends suddenly.
Never there for the preparation and cleaning and certainly never get their wallets out when you refuel.
Conversely, the best way to get yourself invited back is to help clean up.
An old work colleague, use to invite us out for a fishing trip out of Christchurch harbour to catch mackerel (and anything else for that matter.). We'd start the clean up after passing through the Run, chopping up the catch and washing down the deck etc before we moored. It's when Alf told me that he'd just gone through 10 gallons of fuel for the day that I realised the true cost of ownership. He was in a 50% partnership but still costs were eye watering for a little boat.

At the moment in N.I., power boat users can use red diesel at 60p a litre.
A mate took his twin caterpillar powered Sunseeker over to Largs on the Firth of Clyde
last weekend and apparently he used about 1,000 litres of red diesel.
He'd do lots of jaunts like this throughout the summer. Weather depending.
Because we're remaining within the EU area for certain purposes and much jiggery pokery,
from year end power boat users will be forced to use only white /regular diesel,
which locally is selling at £1.38+ per litre.
The poor guy is heart broken and is talking about selling the boat and buying a warbird
to bomb Downing Street.
Can't say I blame him.
