Thanks all for your kind words of welcome, thoughts on reliability and helpful suggestions.

Emtee, AndyK - I am expecting the worst on running costs, although servicing, tyres etc on 'M' BMW's aren't the cheapest either so I'm part of the way there! I only live a couple of miles away from Autoshield so I was thinking that they would be handy for an inspection when the time comes.

BennyD - Thanks for the suggestion on the 4200 front, I'm pretty sold on the looks of the Gransport over the 4200 so I think I will pursue that option for now.

OzzieAl - funnily enough one of the only places I have seen a Gransport in the flesh was in a showroom in Melbourne - they're a wee bit pricy in your neck of the woods though!

If there is anyone in the Manchester type area with a Gransport that wouldn't mind me having a gander at their car in the flesh, that would be appreciated. There aren't too many for sale in this area to have a look at, and I'd prefer to have a look at a car in a non sales type situation first so I am familiar with what I am looking at.

Cheers
Duncan

Duncan, service can be a lot cheaper these days for a Maserati.....A few years back it was silly money and still can be at main dealers.....I had an M3 CSL and a major service was £700 at the dealer....A service on my 3200 was £1200 which wasn't even a main one.....But now have a look at the service prices in the link......Our leader Matt uses him and he is well respected...

Short notice I know but my 2005 Gransport is in Autoshield today for 4 wheel alignment.
I have no objection for you having a good look at it if Russel at Autoshield is OK with that !!

Hi James,

Thanks for the heads up, unfortunately I wasn't in Manchester yesterday.

Duncan,

I used to have a GS - the only problem I ever had was a flat battery from not using it often enough and then when I did use it the only problem was I didn't want to stop driving. They are great cars. Not too sure as to how great they are in snow/ice/slush on summer tyres (epic power slides if you aren't careful). I was always tempted to get rid of my daily driver and stick some winter tyres on the GS. If I had the cash and the space on the drive, the only 2nd car I would have is another GS, which is strange as I was a devoted Porsche man before turning to the dark side.....

Looks superb Dunkx.
Congratulations.
This is a step up, really is. There is nothing like the sound for one thing and nearly the whole world rates the engine as 'one of the best in the world' ...and it is!
I hope your friends don't rag you too much for your choice. However be certain that people will judge you as an individual who doesn't follow the crowd.

Don't think there will be much ragging, jealousy perhaps! I like uncommon cars, so continuing the trend!

Indeed, did seem like the best option available. Has been looked after by Autoshield for the past few years so I know that it has been taken care of. The (ex) owner is now on his 4th Maserati - always good to find a car that has been owned by an enthusiast!
