Talk me out of a R8 V10

I was talking to a car geek relative of my wife on Saturday, he's friends with a guy who tunes *** motors, he told him I have a GTS, and his friend has said its common knowledge in the tuning fraternity that what Maserati say the output of a GT is, is completely different to the reality. 'Apparently' down the Ferrari not wanting the BHP competition.
Be interesting to see what they actually push out.
Might go and speak to the guys at my local RR to see what mines got.

Nah a GT3 kills a Strad in all ways.
challenge accepted ;)

My stradale beat a Porsche boxster GTS, and a tuned 997.1 GT3. Both Porsche were, on paper, faster than the strad. In the case of the GT3 we had two races, on the first, seen above, I won. On the second, he did a power start (held about 4k revs and dumped the clutch). I just hit the gas when the light was green. On the second race he got the lead from the start, about a car length, and maintained it even until the end of the race. We both finished about 175KM/H. I can't remember how long the track was, but 600 or 700m rings a bell. The GT3 in question is owned by a respected local tuner and is way up on a standard car.

Just what happened! I know it does not add up. I posted a thread about my races (there were more) called "a day at the races" or something like that a while back.

Still: i'd take a new R8 V10 plus as a dead swap for mine any day. Then sell it, buy the strad back, and carry on saving for a 570 spyder ;)

A couple of things I agree on.

The Maserati GTS is not a "supercar" in my eyes. But a lot of people associate the brand with supercars.

I don't believe an Audi R8 gets more looks than a Maserati. I just drove through Wales. I saw 10 R8s and I was the only GTS. And every person mouthed the word Maserati as I drove past.

For sure the R8 is a better drivers car. The GTS I think does feel like a barge. But boy is it a beautiful great sounding barge.

Exactly my thoughts! Maybe Ryan lives in a footballers millionaire area where Brash is good?

Fabulous init.

The look of surprise, and the dawning smiles.

I've had this the same as others & never experienced it in any other car. Many times you can see someone mouth 'Maserati' to their friend.

A couple of years ago when I had the 4.2 Granturismo, I toyed with the idea of buying a v10 R8 and borrowed one for the day. I usually get very excited with cars but the R8 didn't do it for me, neither did the Gallardo... They are absolute beasts to drive, but they just don't have that Maserati thing.

I think if you want to do the mid-engined thing the only way to go is with the 458. Its the closest thing I ever got to a Ducati on 4 wheels.

On a side note, heard a guy in a Panamera Diesel yesterday at the lights talking to his passenger about my GTS saying that it looked like $h!t but sounded "alright"...

The panamera diesels have a limited market IMO, but it does suit those who are deaf, have scotopia and fiscal dyslexia

There's a chap lives near me with a Panamera diesel. He looks at my car and smiles every time he rattles past

It's true about the public perception thing. My most recent one was driving past a man and his young land and him saying "Son, that's a Maserati". I think in many ways it defines the brand, perhaps not super cars in the traditional sense but probably one of the best feel good cars out there and most who see them warm to that because they aren't cliched like so many other brands.

I agree with that - I mostly get thumbs up from random people and the public really do tend to appreciate the car. A lot of the times as well, you'll get people getting annoyed by how loud some cars are, but not with the Maserati, all I ever get is people asking me to rev it for them (not something I particularly like doing - but you have to conform sometimes to make a persons day.)

I suspect I may get a negative reaction to this, but there's a bit of me that thinks Maserati's are cars for posers (or at least people who like to be noticed)...

I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing, but it's interesting that most of us accept there are cars that are quicker, better to drive, have better technology, are more reliable, etc, but we are still willing to pay large sums of money to drive something which is (if we're really honest) sub-standard when compared to many of it's competition. The Audi R8 is a perfect example - it's almost certainly a better car by pretty much any objective measure....

It's also the case that when we (including me) talk about what we love about the cars, there are lots of references to how it sounds, how it makes people turn and stare, and the reaction the car gets from others.. As such, if we're being honest, we're all a little bit vain, and get a buzz out of people looking at us and thinking what a nice car we drive...

I've really noticed this over the last three days, as for the last 6 months my Maser had been my daily, but since Friday I've been driving my little Mini around, and it has surprised me how used I've become to having people notice me in the Maserati, and how it feels odd (and less nice) to be invisible again...

So - Is this just me?....
