Still havein reverse problems

Maybe thats the problem with mine. My car is a weekend drive, but if I don't drive it every week, it needs a jumpstart. Believe this is down to an issue with my nearside window not lowering when I open the handle.

Anyhow, I also have the reverse gear issue, but it seems to sometimes intermittent. Had taken it to Autoficinia in Chessington who said it may have been an air bubble in the system, so drained it all out. Didn't solve the problem (did lighten the wallet though), but the boss there didn't think it was an issue and suggested I just wasn't giving it enough time when I held it down. Eventually said I'd probably need a new clutch soon if it continues. (Their reading shows 78% wear?!?)

Hadn't thought it could be related to the battery before.

Is there anyway you can keep your car on a battery tender? Jump starting these cars and/or running with depleted batteries is fraught with danger. A healthy battery is the cornerstone to worry-free Italian supercar motoring.

I would be surprised that air in the F1 fluid would cause an issue isolated to selecting reverse. However, I know Elias well and he's got far more experience than I have so if he felt your system needed bleeding then I'd say it did. Can you get reverse by selecting first gear and then reverse?

Pretty much normal for a GS to need some kind of battery help after > 1 week of driving. I very much doubt the window is causing the issue. More likely to be caused *by* the issue or totally un-related.

Worth checking that your tracker is disconnected, as when the internal batteries on that go, it'll try and charge itself which will kill the battery faster.

As the Voicey says, get a decent tender. C-tek are very good IME. There are a nice variety of connectors as well (just got a new one for Christmas) :)

Have never thought that jump starting would lead to problems. Don't believe I have a tracker. With the cold weather at the moment, starting seems to be more problematic.

Shall look into the tender - any recommendations of where to buy? I don't know much about them - how do they work? Just holds the charge?

Getting into reverse is something I have been able to do each time, but sometimes I'm pulling the switch for what seems like a minute.

Removing the tracker was the best thing I ever did to a GS. Allowed me to park the car up for weeks on end and start it first time. Prior to that, the battery used to drain in a matter of days.

My tracker must of been disconnected before I got the car as never had a problem starting her. And left for weeks at a time

+1 on this or maybe im just lucky with the tracker fitted. Car was sat still for 3 months started first time a few weeks ago. Let it idle for 30mins before putting back in garage and disconnecting. Plan to do this monthly till april when she will live outside again :).

The second piece of kit looks good, Chris. Do you attach it to the car? Permanently?

Yep

There's a little template with the kit to allow the drilling of a mounting hole. It then snaps in and you connect the eyelets to the battery (in my case replacing the flying socket already on there) Just need to find time and a suitably stiff piece of boot lining or similar. Sure I'm not the first member to have one fitted.

Do I need both pieces of kit? Just ordered the 1 from Amazon. Would come in handy with other cars too I'm assuming

My 4200 is '04 - so will have to check on whether there is a tracker.

You need the expensive one, but it comes with both a permanent flying lead you can bolt to the battery and a flying lead with crocodile clips for less permanent use. Additional connectors are easy to come by as well.
