As I'm not having trouble with all other gears and car pulls away great. I'm sure (not 100%) that it's not a clutch issue. I'm thinking this could be the reverse switch itself has any one else had an issue with this. They sell this part on eurospaere at just short of £500 a lot of money for a switch. Any input would be much appreciated thanks.

There is a repair kit for the reverse switch available. Lots of different suppliers, it's a modification rather than an identical replacement. I can only find the 360 and QP ones here but give them a call.

This company just supply's the leaver not the actual switch. So if any one knows if where I can get a switch that would be great. Also does anyone know how to take the unit out. Do I have to remove the whole centre consol

Also can these switches be repaired as a £500 unit from eurospaers. Can't see how a switch can cost this much I'll consider a second hand one if anyone knows of availability

I believe the fault is commonly that the lever fails to make the switch engage, as opposed to the switch failing.

Fully expect that the switch is a bog standard microswitch, but you'll have to get it out.

The Eurospares diagram makes it look like the unit is simply screwed in so could be removed alone.

Looks like four screws

I think in older models maybe switch had four screws on top but not on mine so I think center consol out. I can take the button strip out and think I can feel screws underneath the unit. That's just a pain.

Or is it just a cover plate on top

Hi Steve,
As part of my rejuvenation of the interior, I removed the centre console.
The tricky part is removing the rear vents to expose the screws there.
I took the opportunity to reposition the order of the buttons, as I never need to use ice mode and I was always getting the front and rear fogs confused.
My new order is auto up front, followed by front fog, rear window heater, rear fog, then ice.
Back to topic, let me know what you find inside the reverse switch as mine is now loose after a mechanic had my car.

Regards,

Bruce

How did you remove the rear vents to expose the screws

There are small tabs in the outer wall that need to be levered out gently to allow the vent to be pulled out of the hole.

Ok this is where I'm at. Managed to take out centre console then had to remove the carbon fiber section from the leather section to locate the screws holding on the revers switch box. Then I proceeded to take that apart the leaver itself not in good shape but not blocking any of the switching as I then with the micro switch exposed reconnected to the car to test the switch. Still not working so I either have a faulty switch which then comes to how do I test that. Open to suggestions or there is another problem. Any advice is most welcome.

I suppose I could go ahead and buy a new switch and try. if this is not the problem I will know but expensive way to process of elimination

I would suggest the first thing to do is to figure out how it is supposed to work. Are there two plugs or just the one? How many wires? I would use a multi meter and check which contacts are made when you operate the switch. If there are 4 contacts and two of them are joined when you operate the switch forwards then the other two should be for reverse. If they aren't making its either the switch or the mech that operates the switch. Check for fluff, debris and a broken lever. Do you have to lift the lever to select reverse? If not this is a sign that your lever is not in good health.

Yep meter on the switch. Post a picture, we may well be able to identify it. Don't forget you'll need your foot on the brake as well.

The removal of centre console on GS so I can get the reverse leaver out. image.jpg
After removing inner directional vents (just slide out) gently prise out 3 tabs to pull the outer casing away from centre console to reveal bolts remove these.
image.jpg remove button strip make note of position of plugs and pull out. There is a safety catch on these. a small screw driver is needed wile pulling.a bit fiddly. Undo the screw you have uncovered to release the console. Un image.jpgclip hand break shroud carful as you lift. Unplug 12v power supply and mirror power supply.
Your console should now lift out.
Take into the comfort of your home as cold out side.
Flip over and remove screws to separate carbo fiber section from leather section. Now you can see the screws to remove the reverse switch. image.jpg
I was told by 2 reputable garages that these would just pop out or prise out with a screw driver. I have couses miner damage trying this. image.jpg
Now to look inside image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg
As you can see not in good shape. There are two lugs eather side of the uprights there is a broken one on earher side and both uprights have craked at the base. The slots the lugs run in seem to be very worn.
Flip the switch over image.jpg remove the peice of hardboard to reveal the circuit board image.jpg
This is as far as I've got will continue when I get a meter on it to see if power is going throgh. Still any input is welcomed
Hope this makes sense as doing this on iPhone isn't fun.
