Is that because you have to give the start button a hard push for a few seconds and it isn't up to the job?

Disclaimer…I have only done this on the climate control buttons.

It is possible to remove the sticky coating with a lot of patience, a microfiber cloth, a fingernail, and 100% IPA without damaging the buttons.

I scratched the edge of one button with a large wood toothpick early in the process so stick to a fingernail.

I was told (somewhere) that Neutrogena make-up wipes were the thing to use. I couldn't find any, but I have just used Johnson's 'Make-up be gone' on the VERY sticky buttons on my stand-up desk, and the sticky surface was cleaned off in a trice. Picture below is about 80% of the way through the job. You can see some sticky residue on the far left.

The labels are still fine, but that is because they are embedded material, not painted on - I make no predictions about how this will work on a Maserati. (But I might try it out soon.)

I wish I had tried this on my Ray-Bans last year. https://www.sportsmaserati.com/inde...-sticky-button-magic.35119/page-2#post-915692

I second the make up wipes, just tried a pack the wife gave me on some of the buttons and came up a treat!

Will tackle the rest now I know it works.

So apart from the symbols on the air vents surround, what other parts are painted over say white plastic, or have painted symbols, that would be at risk of being wiped off if you were going diy?

My centre console around the NIT, HVAC etc while not sticky, has softened to the point it picks up dings and scratches and holds on to dust, and I'd really like to get the coating off.
I'd want to do it in situ like I did the HVAC bit wondered about the various buttons in the vicinity? These would need doing too, but I fear that I'll be rubbing off the lettering.

NB this is for the 2007 QP with the early Bose NIT

This is another job I need to look at as some of my plastic has started to go sticky and collect dust and fluff. Might attempt it over the next few weeks.
As Eb above asked; can it be done in situ without damaging leather etc?

I had an old central air vents and clock from QP. I cleaned off the sticky with nail varnish removal pads and the white was fine.

Is there a specific lacquer to put over the top of the buttons once the sticky stuff has been removed to protect the symbols/lettering?
