Steps to cure aggressive content

You should consider becoming an actuary.
They love this forensic approach dissecting data to correct a quote of 90% is actually 44%.

Me, I can't be bothered. My perception is still 90% by very few members. They must be on the smartphone or PC all day long logged on to this forum studying how many members are logged on at a moment in time.

There can be more than one.......

It’s not exactly forensic, it only took me 10 minutes and it is data that is available to everyone.

You are entirely correct, your opinion is yours and yours alone. I don’t want to change your opinion, just provide context for interested parties.

My only gripe, is the pulling of certain quite innocent subject threads (Rant thread, Ukraine Border and a few others) because two people couldn't behave. Just delete the offending posts, and let normal conversation prevail...

The problem is, if it goes wrong once, it will do it again. It might be harsh, but if everyone knows that it will lose the whole thread if it gets out of hand, it’s a good reason to stay calm.

I still don’t get the problem with so called “off topic” content and those moaning about it should look back in their history to see if they have contributed to such threads, some have for sure.

As for who posts the most content I would have no idea as I don’t look at any statistics (I have enough of that at work).

I do get that some threads can be considered “showboating” but they are easy to spot and ignore, the cooler will address the profanity, but remember some of those very same posters contribute significantly to other areas.

Personally mods, I would close this thread, make the changes you think are necessary and we all move on - one way or another.

If I post this, maybe i can force it closed like the other innocents....

Assuming they care.....

We make the assumption that if they feel strongly enough to argue on a subject, then they’ll want to keep it open. But we’ll make a judgement call of course.

The key, as Matt said, is it’s everyone’s forum. We should all assume positive intent unless proven otherwise.

It seems to me that this forum, which I value highly, is primarily about members of the Maserati demographic communicating with each other to share ideas, advice, humour, conversation and other things. I can understand that some folk want to listen/read but not write much and they, like everyone who can refrain from profanity and overbearingness, are of course welcome. QP_V, I happen to notice, fits neatly into the category of "everyone" and is particularly welcome because he has just bought his first Maserati and is actively posting. This helps the forum along.
It also seems to me that the few not-post-often people who are uncomfortable with a relatively small number of people posting most content, would both help the forum along and help serve their own needs if they were to post more frequently. I would welcome even greater breath of views and ways of thinking.

By way of contrast to this forum there are things like You Tube and Netflix which are not about communicating with each other to share. They are primarily about entertainment and I'm ok with that.
I also get entertained by this forum, but I think that is pretty much a by-product.

Thanks for reading this far. Sorry it has been a bit of a brain dump, but I don't really have time tonight to write a concise, post.

I’ve read a few times that there is a view that 90% of content is generated by say 12 individual members. So just for clarity:

For the last week, there were 157 different members posted at least once
(this is about average, this generally moves between 140 and 180 per week depending on time of year) with a total of 1131 posts in total (this excludes PMs, which don’t count toward this total).

The top 12 posters between them posted 503 of these posts, this is an average of 42 posts per member in the top 12 and represents 44% of the total posts in this period. Actually, 90% of the content is produced by the top 81 posters

Another useful measure is the number of members logged in over the previous hour. This shows we have between 40 and 60 members (not guests) logged in at most points during the day. Not all of them post, but they are going to the trouble of logging in to view the content.

I thought this might provide some useful perspective.

Interesting stuff.

Are you able to establish how many members find pineapple on pizza to be acceptable?

Asking for a friend.

I joined this forum around six years ago. The input I received to my question around do I buy a 3200, a 4200 or a Gransport was helpful. A trip to Richard Grace and Marios at Autoshield made up my mind, that it had to be a Gransport for me.

After that, my frequency of site visits dropped off driven by off-topic posts ( self proclaimed wealth and investment managers, advice seeking help on legal matters etc) which I always seek and pay a professional advisor because each case has its peculiarities. Then swearing and profanity. And finally, the observation that 20 or so people post around 90% of all content out of a membership of almost 9000.

I joined that exclusive club of 8980 and today dip occasionally into the forum but rarely post in case it attracts a Highlander duel to the death ("There can be only one!")

The same for 911UK also - but there are around 35,000 members on that forum and around 100 members post 90% of all content, and many of those are simply not the experts they proclaim to be.
I thought some of your financial advice (tax free cash/pensionsetc) was on the money a while back.
You should chip in with more thoughts.

Nailed it, from my perspective. We share our interest in these cars, and that’s what creates the forum.

Anyone, lurker or otherwise, is welcome to chose how they want to take part. But its important to point out, it’s much, much more fun in a bar in a hotel somewhere in Southern Europe.
