Squeeks

Having had the 18.5k major service my GS has now developed an annoying squeek or 2. One (squeek-sqeek-sqeek) I suspect (from other threads here) is probabbly related to handbrake as it appears at about 20 mph and stops if I lightly engage and release handbrake. The other squeek seems to come as I pull away and this has me slightly more concerned as it sounds sort of more metallic :worried1:. Trouble is I can't take the wheels off etc. to check the rear brakes as my tools are not in the UK yet. So, do you all think my diagnosis is OK and any idea where I can get the brakes cleaned cheaply near Bristol Avon (or can anyone offer me a garage and tools for a couple of hours in exchange for a rust colored bio-petrol additive :drinks: )?

Help as always much appreciated!

Hi Aeros, had same on mine, just on take off or hard breaking, turned out to be the front suspension bushes, plus you can check the anti0roll bar rubber bushes, either lub or change.

Looks like Phil has chipped in with a good offer.

If not, Duncan Slade (Alfanet Services) is handy for most Maser jobs not requiring an SD2/3. He's up in Fishponds.

Interesting - just had most of the bushes replaced due to wear...

...and that is probably where your problem stems from. Take it back and get them to take them out and lube them with either Teflon grease or Graphite paste.

Spigot bearing is easy to in down as it only occurs at pull away and on mine at least sounds like an owl hoot! It comes and goes but tends to occur more after periods of damp conditions, although I can't figure that one out as it makes no sense at all!

I think Klive has probably hit the nail on the head with the brief pull away squeal , its a known common fault which now has an Maserati prevention upgrade to , saying that there are no further consequences or damage to be achieved by letting it carry on other than the fact it can be annoying and disconcerting, just better to get it done next time the clutch has to be repaired, if its under warranty then get it in and get it done FOC , the bearing itself is only £15.00 , some like Urby actually bought a clutch independantly and had that fitted at the same time

Spigot bearing... Well if it doesn't do any further damage I'll live with it for a while.... (what does a spigot do anyway?)

Great help!!!!

Its an additional shaft support bearing that tends to get a bit dry , nothing to really worry about , no one has ever reported problems caused by it, other than a squeal , and the dealer techs always say to get it done the same time as the clutch is renewed
