Spyder cross brace

Make one out of cardboard and sticky back plastic, and stick it on the car with Blutack. You’ll get just as much stiffening for a lot less money.

Not that helpful really.
when you can get something like this for a humble mx5 there has has to be a Maserati solution.

There are millions of (almost certainly rusty) MX5s, and somewhat less 4200 spyders.

Off the shelf seems unlikely, but anything can be made (not just out of cardboard), so a good local fabricator will be your best bet.

That was my next step, just thought I’d start by re creating the Maserati patterns but need to see/scan parts 67497700 and 67497800 then think about adding some reinforcement to the sills
i did see a reference to a company that made under chassis braces for a 3200 but they are different apparently.

As above even with this genuine Maserati part the difference is negligible. You need a more fundamental engineering solution to address an inherent strength issue in the Spyder and as Maserati couldn't or wouldn't address the problem due to the small number of sales it is unlikely that any 3rd party manufacturer is going to invest the design and research necessary.

Having said all of that, the GS Spyder has addition box sections in the floor I have read. Again, a fabricator could do something similar if you have the appetite and cash.

These I have seen, and it doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. The subframe is already a very hefty but of kit, so bracing the suspension mounts seems a bit pointless.

In time, you will appreciate that it is. Fwiw, on my 04MY Spyder, the holes in the factory cross brace are bigger than the bolts that go through them. Therefore, with the forces applied through the shell, the cross brace is practically useless. Still, you do whatever makes you feel better, and let us know how you get on. Good luck.

With hindsight I should have held out for a later model but finding a low mileage manual is nearly impossible. This is a vehicle to keep as I hate modern computer controlled cars so I’m prepared to develop it to how I want it to drive. I’ve already changed the roll bars and suspension height to later spec, so next is the stiffening of the chassis. By the sounds of it I’m going to have to down the custom road with additional bracing to the transmission tunnel and possibly connecting to the sills if I can get something fabricated. If anyone has any advice on pick up points on the chassis please let me know. With all the skills in this country someone must have the knowledge.
Does anyone have a photo of the underside of a Gransport spyder for comparison?
