Best of luck with it Frank..!! If the cable has worn, it might be an idea to post up where, so that others can check if they get the same problem..??

Frank,

I replaced mine when I got it with OEM's from Eurospares about £33 each I think and the fit was flippin awful.

I'm not one to try and teach grandma to suck eggs but have you got the shoes to match the radius of the drums by filing and settling them?

If you place the drum face down and pop a shoe into the drum to the right location you can move it round the drum a few times and it will polish the contact points. Remove it an file the contact points, repeat until you are getting 100% contact then stick a chamfer on each end, repeat for the other shoes.

Newton, no probs......are you sure they were OEMs?

Don't worry, when my OEMs arrive, will double check all

Eurospares list them as OEM.

No probs, I was shocked at how far they were out though, it is worth making them fit and essential for me as my drive slopes steeply and a working handbrake is a must.

So the shoe is not the right shape to fit the drum, what on earth do we put up with..??

Yes Rob, though there will be some wear on 10 year old drums, I was taught by my dad to 'fit' shoes to the drums. I know it sounds daft to take a file to brand new shoes but if you don't have contact across the whole friction surface you will have inefficiencies.

I know for my Aurelia, the brakes are all drum and a special machine is used to ensure the radius etc are all perfect before fitting otherwise you have lots of issues

The radius on the shoes should be the same as those of the drum, regardless of wear..!! A fast way would be to put a grinder on the ends, done in seconds as opposed to filing them down..!! Have fun..!!

No need for a grinder chucking all that friction material about Rob, a good file is much more controlled and precise.
