that is odd, so is the feed to the relay down and some numpty just decided with this dodgy fix, you might have dodged a bullet there by finding this

There’s power to both bits of the relay with the ign on so I checked it directly on the battery and it doesn’t switch, at the moment the only bit that seems at fault is the relay itself. Someone must have had some knowledge to bodge it as it took me 15mins of studying the wiring diagram to work out what was going on.

It may also explain why I thought the lights flickered a couple of times when the heater flaps moved, I just thought I was seeing things.

I think you’re right about it being a lucky save.

Relay arrived at last. Guess thats the reason it was bypassed no one had one. Crackle now gone.

You can change the colour on the radio and it’s quite a good match at night.

nothing worse than crackling speakers and squeaks that get bloomin annoying and take forever to track down, well done for sorting it, if you'd taken the car to an auto electrician or garage I bet you'd of got fleeced for a fair bit
