Don't get me wrong there are some roads with speed limits that you wonder why...But as a rule 30 is 30 and there for a reasson....I saw my neighbours 7 year old get hit by a joy rider..We were going to the park for a picnic....The joy rider was hitting 40......It was a 30 and believe me it was the worse thing I have ever seen...She was such a lovely little girl who lost her life to mindless yob and speed.........I have very strong views on speed limits in built up areas..........

Oh no that is horrible, i would hate to witness something like that. What happened to the loser behind the wheel? slap on the wrist or prison?

I am feeling such guilt now ..and I thoght it was being very petty.
Believe it or not, I agree with you about penalties. In truly populated areas I am very aware of speed - in fact am I the only one who drives at 20mph past schools? Its' what they do in the US and a **** good law too.

My gripe is the indiscriminate postioning of cameras, camera vans and the like which are positioned at ludicrous sites purely to raise funds. I have sympathy with anyone so caught.

Yeah, always a bind to be caught just doing over the 30......but.........and there is but........at 30 so much less likely to kill the young or old people who make an innocent mistake whilst on foot or bike.

Hitting someone at 30, will do so much less injury you wouldn't believe it.

Per mile driven... I've just had a day and a half on the Isle of Wight and drove around 60 miles tops... Apart from the overt and high number of fixed Gatso and truvelo boxes I came accross the mobile van set up 3 times in different locations and two different bike rats with speed guns. Fortunately at no time was I in a hurry so was well under in every case... but mile for mile it was oppressive to say the least!

Yup...the GB motorist is driving around in an open automotive prison.......guilty at all times........til caught...then very clearly guilty in the eyes of the law and public..............big brother/KGB/Stasi type tactics keep you all under the jack boot...........

:(

Now I know I have an axe to grind here,
BUT
yesterday I saw a camera van in a layby immediately following a speed camera ... so close that no-one could have speeded up in the time.
Really this is a pure wastage of police manpower. I for one don't believe they are understaffed - I've yet to see a police officer showing any urgency to do anything, other than pop in to my neighbouring convenience store to buy their lunch!

Agree with you Mark , they used to do the same on the A24 dorking road , bendy dual carriage way reduced for a few hundred yards to 50mph with a static camera in the middle , every one would slow down for the camera and then speed up again , but around one blind bend there is a central layby where the police would set up hand held camera's to catch the people who sped up too early , now tell me thats not just purely for financial reasons ,

Yet shortly after when back at home in Worthing after arriving back from holls , when my house had been broken into whilst away, tried to ring late evening on a saturday night to report it , and was told its not a priority and would be dealt with at a later date , tired and incensed i drove to the local station to physically report it , a few huindred yards before the police staion i passed two (meat wagons ) full of police officers easily around 20 all sitting and joking in the vans , obviously waiting for the saturday night mayhem ( this was sleepy Worthing i might add and not Brixton ) on arrival at the police station i was happy to report my incident and explain my frustration over the previous officer saying it wasn't important enough to be a priority , were under manned he replied , pardon i said ive just passed 20 odd coppers sitting on there back sides laughing and joking doing sweet nothing , cant you re deploy one of those , oh there just on call incase was his reply , you can guess the amount of steam coming from my ears , incase of what ....... a crime being committed ........... well ive just had a crime committed on and in my house why cant you attend to that , sir ive told you it will be dealt with , and if you continue to get excited i'll have you removed

After that incident , frustrated and tired i returned home thinking that my long standing view of our trusted police force was well and truly dented , disgusted at the way i had been treated , i have only contempt for their attitudes now , they are after all public servants and paid by us tax payers , dont think i'll ever have a good word to say about them again

Less than ideal Loz.....if you aint in the emergency services prepared to at least put yourself in the way of some harm or less than safe circumstance then you're merely doing another mundane job...reduce their wages and reduce their terms.......no different to other PS's.

PS's attitudes frequently stink and its very annoying, less than helpful and very unprofessional

So many things in society have changed.......very few of them for the better.

Everything has turned into a racket, or closed shops ( not necessarily from a TU aspect either) or people using their position for their own ends.....as for law enforcement...what a laugh......its now merely down to rules enforcement dreamt up to milk the golden goose that is the middle classes........if my head wasn't so fat I'd go out and buy a balaclava and shout abuse at MPs as they filed into their very own closed shop...aka Houses of Parliament!!!

You know Loz,
this is a worry I have for our country.
You and I are, I like to think, reasonably sensible, upright citizens ans have always been supporters of our Establishment.
In my opinion the police cannot afford to alienate the likes of us.
Your experience is absolutely woeful - there is no excuse for the manner in which you were addressed by a public servant - yes a public servant. I rather think you should make your displeasure known to the Chief Constable (though you are probably wasting your time).

For your information.
In the past 10 years I have had 3 occasions to call upon police for help.
1) My car was 'keyed' in town. Police caught the girl who did it. She was drugged to the eyeballs. I was told that they wouldn't pursue it as she was without visible means of payment. So had to pay myself!
2) Eldest son received a death threat at work. A very nice policewoman came to take my statement (William had told me I was wasting my time). Was worried for his sake at work but I needn't have worried because 4 WEEKS later I had a phone call asking me to go through the details as they hadn't had them passed along ...god job he was still alive then.
3) 2am disturbance in town. Rang the police to come and investigate - told that it wasn't their responsibility - speak to the local authority. So wrote letter asking for help from C Constable, requiring to know who actually is responsible for civil unrest. Never had the courtesy of a reply.

Terrible, terrible image now in my eyes - my poor old father would have been ashamed of the force for which he had such a high regard. Well I have no regard whatsoever.
No excuses but I have been penalised by them so many times now - recently pulled over for a side light not working. Very aggresive officer who was very arrogant and rude.

The days that the police lose our support, I know we are in trouble.

Broken window syndrome.....let them off the small stuff...they go on to big stuff

Crime 1.

Should have pressed charges.......get her doing community service or some such...put a mark on her record, don't care if shes a so-called drug addict.......just another name for an A*S*S*H*O*L*E!!!!

Crime 2

Reported said PS to their Chief officer.......if in two weeks no adequate response, send a solicitors letter ...and then report lack of action to ombudsman

Crime 3

Report to ombudsman

Crime 4

The Police thinking they are merely doing another job and us paying for it and them putting two fingers up at us and then doing nothing.

Wise words P.
You are reading from the same songsheet as Loz & I.
Hey hope the constabulary don't hack in to these forums ...Oh I don't know it may be good for them to know how people feel about them. I sort of think they puff out their chests and assume they have total loyalty.

All of society hanging by a thread Mark..........how big were the Polices chests when a few 1000 thieves took to the streets?

I have never seen a more unsure, frightened group of people for a long time.

Alienating a major group.......80% of society aint a good idea...all good policing requires public co-operation...according to another author the level of skills and intellect amongst the police is not much more than a primary school leaver.......less than ideal.

My goodness, I'm feeling so 'down' now.
Makes me glad to be old and haven't got as long to watch it unfold.
