SP30s

Chaps,
I have enough SP30s to shuffle into a suit now nearly.
After the traumas of court, I really didn't think it would ever happen again ...until it did.

This time; doing 38mph downhill on a dual-carriageway restricted to 30mph ...and outside of a built-up area!
Camera van this time. Went back to check and found it nigh impossible to get DOWN to 30mph on that road without massive braking and old(er) men in Hyundai i10s racing past me.
Sent off my acceptance and asked for a Driver Awareness Course, in exchange for points and guess what?
Yup they are letting me attend one.
Have increased the price since my last one in 2004 but someone has to pay for the increase in police pension contributions.

Never had a problem until 2003/4. Is that when the police decided to up the ante?
Seems like being 60 is no guarantee of innocence.
Daft thing is I drive so slowly and carefully now, it's hardly worth having the beautiful, sexy Maserati that I love.
Must pop into the Hyundai dealer tomorrow to try out the i10. Hey, may put a Lancia badge of the front; that will give me street-cred!

Mark, I hate to tell you this, but I think the gods have decreed that you're to take all the SP30's on behalf of the forum.

I'm sure this'll come as cold comfort, but you're doing a fine job (no pun intended) :D

As for driving slowly in a Maserati, would you rather Scarlet Johansson scarpered past you at full pelt, or sauntered seductively by?

Ah, she would sit very nicely in the old passenger seat. I think it would slow me down quite a lot!
Might speed up the pulse but .....!

'Fine job' . Ha.. very good old chap.
Incidentally Emtee, whatever happened to your last avatar? It was the best I'd seen; where did it come from?

Had it for a while Mark, so just fancied a change, though the portrait format of my new one does seem to take up a lot of space, so I may change it again.

The painting is called The Strength of the Curve by Italian Futurist painter Tullio Crali.

One of my favourites and if you're interested, here are some other of his paintings.

Thanks Emtee,
I sort of assumed it may have had 'futurist' roots. Having taught art at a secondary school, the futurists were always popular with A-level students.
Amazingly advanced as an art form.
Thanks for the info - I hope to spend some time looking at those.

I received more...two in three year and zero before...tickets while driving my Porsche 4CS.

Now I am a mild manner Spyder driver banging around Southwest Florida (USA) highways in "sport" mode! And NO tickets...so far.

Sorry to learn about your ticket(s?)...if it helps I did the driving school twice to avoid the losing points and higher insurance rates...grin and bear it...a small price to pay to drive your beautiful Maserati!

Yeeees!
I have a date for my course .... 7th October in lieu of 3 points.
Wouldn't want to go back again to my insurance co. with even more points to add.
Having said that, my premium for next 12 months has not increased since last year ...and that in spite of the ban and fine... go figure!

insurance has supposed to have gone up 18% this year but I do not know anyone who shops around who is paying more, does this mean the insurance companies are trying to take advantage of newspaper headlines !

I do think the insurance companies are taking advantage; I just can't understand that the cheaper premium is with the same one - used Go-Compare and no-one else got close.

My dad was caught last year, 34 in a 30. What a joke, hardly going to kill someone at 34 mph.

It's no wonder that regular people are beginning to lose faith in our legal system is it, with events like that. I imagine your father is a decent, law-abiding (apart from the 34mph) citizen who has spent his life supporting the law of the land?
He must feel so let-down now with what has been happening over the last few years - what is happening to real crime?
Please give him my commiserations.

Yeah exactly that Mark, however, because he had not been caught speeding before, he went on this drivers awareness course instead of taking the 3 points.

The thing is you will not get away with going over 30 in a 30 zone.......Built up, children playing etc etc......This is now seen as bad as drink driving and frowned up on.....You can still get away with 80 on a motorway but over 30 in a 30 is a big no no these days.......

I always drive at 30 in a 30 with the cruise on. Really winds up the one speed guys behind me who do 40-45 in a 60 but nearly the same in town.

The thing is we can complain about being caught doing 34//32/38..etc in a 30 but its the law of the land so you break it and get caught not really much you can say really......May seem small to some but its still the law of the land and there is usualy a good reason for a 30 mile speed limit.....
