Not only can it detect if you are speeding,
ASSET can determine if a driver is wearing a seatbelt,
measure the distance between his car and the car in front to see if he's tailgating.
It also reads number plates and tax discs to see if the driver has valid insurance and Vehicle Excise Duty.
The (semi) good news ? looks like it will be 2013 before they are introduced here.
Regards,
Enzo.

I particularly like this quote...

AA President Edmund King believes that the camera will be welcome on UK roads, as long as it is not used as a "money-making machine".

classic....:D

At 50k a piece, how else they going to get some money back!!!

The AA should be actively decrying the use of said machines.....................what a lot of snivelling disingenuous drivel.............

Aside from the speeding (which of course I never do, officer!) I have no issue with these. I always wear a seatbelt, don't drive up anyone's backside and my cars are always taxed and insured. If these cameras rid our roads of some of the scumbags who rattle around in untaxed, uninsured deathtraps and drive dangerously then I'm all for it. For anyone who doesn't wear a seatbelt I have no pity whatsoever for any fines or injuries they inflict upon themselves.

.......ditto MAF....................but as ever...they never turn out to be used for quite what they were intended for......................the criminal classes and chavdom, will do what they want whenever.....they won't pay their fines...they ignore all rules, they put two fingers up at the system at every opportunity.

Get an MOT...you're having a laugh......road tax.?......bigger laugh...insurance............?...you're pulling my leg.

Who ends up paying........the ordinary...occasional transgressor...............UM in mind....................

Well im gonna be a bit controversial here , agree totally with the road safety argument re insurance and mot , Tax well im not so sure , in my view so it catches everybody who drives regardless ,they should make road tax a new levy on Petrol , then those who drive a lot and wear out the roads pay more , for the little old granny who does 500 miles a year then she pays very little , as for the seat belts law , i think its ridiculous its against my human right to make me wear one , and i would be quite happy to pay extra loading on my health/life insurance to cover my own medical costs , i hate being trapped in a seat belt , as i used to hate wearing a crash helmet when i rode Motor bikes , nothing better on a hot summers day to jump on the Bike and have the wind rushing through your hair , for that i have fond memories for just 2 years , it certainly doesn't hurt anyone else if i dont wear a seat belt or wear a crash helmet , and as for the nanny state trying to make all cyclists wear crash helmets that feckking riddiculous , beats me why we just st back and let the governments to this to us

rant over
