Frank, I will mate, I just did not expect some ar5ehole to pull across the road slowly in front of me and leave me virtually nowhere to go and I think I need new rear tyres, so I will ease off a bit.

Just out of interest, I contacted all the Maserati dealers That might have serviced my car, to try and get some servicing data. Graypaul of Nottingham, were kind enough to send me a full copy of the service history, date, mileage, work done and prices charged, excellent, I had further history from one other dealer, not as informative, but helpfull, I did not hear anything from one London dealer at all??

There are many things to admire about our cars Rob, but the brake / suspension combination ain't one of them. Stamp on the brakes and the front will bob and the @rse will go light. Any camber, dodgy surface or turn at the steering and the rear will look to break loose. Had it myself, scary stuff if it catches you off guard.

Miles, does that effect the face lift 4200 as much though...It was worse on the early 4200's wasn't it....?

My (pre-facelift) 4200 was worse. Slam on the brakes and the rears would squirm as the front suspension compressed, and any turn into the steering whilst slamming on and the rear tyres would give up their grip, but I always drive in sport, so this has a bearing. I dropped the suspension and this did help a little.

Not driven a facelift in these circumstances, but assume it will be similar to my GS, which is a lot better. The only time I had the same was at Bruntingthorpe when I left the braking too late into a fast corner and was still braking as I turned. All four corners let go, which was fun! :D The other was on the highway when I was overtaking (at some speed) on a down hill stretch of a country lane, The drop was a bit 'whoopy' and the one I picked was on a right bend, so could see the way was clear, but as I turned to come back into lane from the overtake manoeuvre, the car went over the 'whoop' went light, went straight on for a second, the suspension compressed, the turn in the steering grabbed and the car stabbed sidewards - scared the living daylights out of me!

so, what is different between pre facelift and facelift (inc GS) models? Calipers and discs are the same.

I believe the set up is different Nikos....The 4200 facelift is nearly a GS......

My little scaAAAary moment in my 4200 I think was the tyres, the pressures were all over and way too soft apart from 1 of them, I have sorted that now and it feels much better. The 3200AC is terrific in corners, it's much lower than the 4200 and the suspension works really well.
I believe that the facelift 4200 has numerous improvements to steering, brakes, suspension and gear box, over the earlier 4200, this is what the bumf says. It has the same steering geometry and suspension settings as the GS as far as I know. I have pushed it quite hard and the steering in to corners is precise, with little body roll at all. Until I get a new set of boots on the rear I am not going to push the corners too hard, but under braking I don't get any nose diving as such, it's pretty stable aall round. TIME WILL TELL!!!!

Wait till you get it on track , or hit roundabout city like MK , you'll experience brake fade , boiling fluid etc now thats scary when your approaching a junction or roudabout at 70 or 80mph, the main reason i upgraded the brakes on the GS , in sport mode both cars , my early 4200 and the GS have always felt very very planted and not a hint of arrrse drift unless it was deliberate and controlled , something i enjoy doing on the occasional early morning lonesome blatt,

Good rears i would say are more important than the fronts , tho to be sure i always renew with a set of 4 makes sense i reckon rob

Had brake fade in my 156 on brooklands track, almost took out a 355 and a QP. Very disconcerting, had to pull the handbrake and drop the gears serverly to stop any impact . Using the gears to slow down though was very had as its a Q-system, meaning auto box on a H drive system gives u manual over ride as long as it's within rev range so dropping Down in an emergency = very had.

Good advice everybody and yes the rear boots I definitely need to get sorted, although it is much better since I blew the tyres up to correct pressures???

One question......So that I do not bust anything, I need to be sure how to get the number plates off front and rear, so that I can get my private plates on. It looks like they are applied with adhesive pads, but before I start to pull and lever them off, I need to be sure that is the case. Does anybody know for sure?? The front plate definitely has a mounting bracket behind it, no holes in the plates for bolts!!
Cheers
