Hi everyone, I'm after a little advice please: About 50% of the time, when I bring the car to a stop I get a ticking noise from the front and then the engine runs rough for a few seconds. Almost like its misfiring. It only happen when slowing to a stop but I feel its getting more regular. I think the car as become a little sluggish too recently and the fans seem to be coming on more often then previously - not sure if this is related too? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

I would say solinoid valves are on their way. This is what drives the variator and work in reverse of the startup rattle.

Basically your car is on the wrong phase timing adjustment hence the rattle and poor running (timing)

it could also be a broken chain guide tensioner, we see this a lot.

The issue was a problem last year too actually but was advised it was 'CAT failure', I had that sorted and it seemed to be ok for a while. Car runs well generally and only problematic when slowing down to a stop.

Is there a procedure I could do to check those things?

Firstlt, thanks for you help :)
Previously when I had the same issue I once got a flashing engine light - OBD said a misfire on cylinder 7. Would that make sense with a solinode problem too? Is there a way I can test them? Also can they be replaced individually?

No, you never told me there was a misfire on C7, check the spark plug and coil pack, move to a different cylinder and see if the error moves with the coil pack or stays.

I've not had the misfire code since last year and it was just the once, they swapped over the coils to test but it never came back on again. The engine does sound similar at the moment when coming to a stop but no lights/codes. It vibrates and splutters like its almost going to stall. They picks back up a few seconds later
