Road Trip to Italy

For me, it’s just about staying stress free. I wasn’t too concerned about price as it’s a holiday after all. We can turn up whenever, without having to rush or re-book to meet a particular deadline. I booked ages ago though, so maybe the prices have changed as the departure date gets nearer...

France is teetering on the edge of a 14 day quarantine it seems. The flying option is looking more likely now. Nevermind, will hire a car and do a bit of the south of Italy instead I think..

Nope, never been.
We’re staying at the unfeasibly entitled Hôtel Bad Horn right on the lake. I’ll report back !

What a brilliant name for a hotel. But don’t be too detailed in your report :p

I've cancelled all the hotels. With Holland being on the list too that closes that route back... and also you would be travelling against FCO advice, so no holiday insurance (and not sure what that does to your car insurance either..)

The best-named (in the NON 'oooh-err, matron', sense) hotel I ever stayed in was the Celebrity International Grand Hotel in Beijing. And it was pretty grand.

I’m pressing on regardless. I’ve just returned from Croatia where they have a proper sense of proportion about CV19. It was a delight to get away from the UK gloom & doom ‘be scared’ rhetoric. So our route will take us through France, Switzerland, Italy and then France again to attend a very good friends wedding....which I am going to class as ‘essential travel’ :D

Enjoy B, would love to do the same but... as one who has to enforce the rules, and the other a Dr... We can't sit at home for 2 weeks expecting someone else pay for us to do nil.

Will do. You’ll hear it here first if we’re arrested or detained and need bailing out !

Have a great trip, but all joking aside, rules are changing everywhere on a daily basis and from what we hear the Eurozone take things a little more seriously that we do, in terms of policing and fines........ google is your friend to keep abreast of the latest.
Stay safe and enjoy the trip.....

And my new passport arrived yesterday... new British one in blue.

Wonder how long that will stay in the drawer.

I have just replanned my French trip - we will transit France Belgium and the Netherlands via Calais to Aachen in Germany on 1 tank of fuel and no bladder stops! Then down through Germany and into Italy...

I suspect traffic will be a lot lighter if you take a more southerly route through Belgium past Lille and into Germany by Luxembourg. That avoids the pinch point of Antwerp or Brussels. My QPV GTS would achieve 25mpg at 85mph cruise and that route is c330 miles so within a tank. The easiest alternative is to Saarbrucken via Reims, which is about 25 miles further plus tolls but should be even less traffic.
