Road closures in London are a ***** joke - get a grip Boris!

This and last weekend was trying to get around central London (mainly to visit restaurants) but so many key roads were closed that it became a blinking nightmare. Trying to get from Liverpool Street to just south of the river took 35 minutes!

It is mainly due to an unprecedented number of key roads being shut, forcing and funnelling traffic into snaking queues of utter, mind-numbing misery. Also saw this article in recent Telegraph.... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/ukn...travel-chiefs-sort-out-London-congestion.html

What is going on? Is this deliberate or incompetence?

Boris won't be getting my vote if this sh** keeps up...

...or necessarily evil?

Dem, does he still drive a lambo?

It is getting depressing driving in London and it feels like a deliberate attack on motorists. Takes all the fun out of driving such lovely cars...

What a load of politician's bollo*ks.

Around me they've been doing water mains replacement for over a year. Now I know it needs to be done, I know investment in infrastructure is in general a good thing, but all the clichés about lanes blocked for no reason, no one working there for days on end, etc etc are happening in front of my eyes.

It's become a bit of an intellectual puzzle just getting in and out of my neighbourhood. We have no shortage of one-way street madness to start with, close half of them (seemingly at random, with no notice) and you find yourself in a motorised version of chess trying to figure out what moves to make.

I blame elf n safety. You see whole lanes closed, and alternating flow traffic lights inflicting misery in both directions, for a single parked compressor. I think contractors use those alternating flow lights because they can, if they had to pay a hefty license fee for each time they install one you'd quickly see they could get by without them.

Good spot on the tweets Michael.

There also seems to be a lot of construction going on in central parts of London at the moment and I wonder whether this has spiked the number of closures. I will look more closely next time I encounter one which should be every 5 minutes!

Whatever the reason, I'll be ******** if I am am paying road tax, congestion charge, parking fees and parking fines to be so royally shafted by the councils and the mayor!

Don't forget that every single weekend in London there is a demonstration of one type or another. Rather Boris than Newt-Boy. The man who had a policy of deliberately mucking up the traffic light phasing to cause so much angst and congestion that people would avoid the city altogether.

I definitely agree about Newt boy, but it's Boris who is here now. Flippant tweets like the one above don't help when you you've just squandered 40 minutes of your Sunday trying to get through 2.5 miles of traffic. Was just as bad the weekend before. I don't pay my taxes (in all their wondrous forms) for this ****... and I cannot imagine it's good for the city either.

The roadblocks I saw did not seem to be anything to do with demos but could be wrong...

There is a **** of a lot of construction, demonstrations and events.

We've had cycling events and the Greenpeace march in the last few weeks, and in the City they are building about 3-4 new skyscrapers!

Reading all this, I am so glad we live out in the sticks. Doing battle with that sh!t everyday would drive me mad. City living, you are welcome to it.
