Reverse "beep" - where's the module?

Perhaps a bit of an odd one, but I can't get used to the loud beep when you put a 4200/Gransport in reverse. I can see the value in an audible reminder, but it's way too loud and annoying - to me anyway! Does anyone know where the module/siren is fitted, so that I can persuade it to be quieter (insulate it!). Sounds like it's coming from somewhere near the back seats.

Thanks

If its the 4200 then its located under the dash. Left side i think mounted on a bracket. Its a digitek bridge controler box which also links into temperature sensors and gearbox sensors. Same module that beeps if you start the car up in gear.

There are some small speaker holes in it that you can tape up. Picture of it below and ive listed the part numbers so you can look on one of the car spares sites to give you a better idea of location.

Part No: 182232

Yeah agreed bit of an odd one Nige, can't say I've ever been in reverse long enough for it to become a problem , happy hunting ,
I suggest if you unlucky enough to have kept your job after this Corona ,you refrain from retraining to be a dust cart driver lol

Yes that’s the bridge can box, it’s screwed to the bulkhead, under dash, above accelerator pedal. 2 x 10mm nuts hold it on. Connectors are a bit of a pig to get off.

Ok, thanks. Don’t know why I thought the sound was coming from behind me! There are various other beeps which are quieter - like the parking sensors (and sound more like they’re coming from the front), but it’s just the reverse one that bugs me. I’ll have a look for it.

The reverse proximity beeper is under the parcel shelf, stuck to the side of the shelf speaker. If it’s of interest we changed one on a GTS as the owner complained it’s was not loud enough, it’s yours if you want it, it is quieter and I am 99% sure it’s the same parts for 32/42

That’s generous of you - thanks. But I’m ok with the proximity sensor noises...it’s purely the much louder single long beep when you put it in reverse. Perhaps I’m just noticing it because I can only move the car in and out of the garage atm

Thats the bridge can unit, try a bit of gaffer tape over the speaker holes, it might be enough reduction for you and a simple fix.

And so you know, the GranSport bridge can box is different to the 4200 one, they are not interchangeable.

The loud beep I’m hearing is definitely not from under the dash - it’s somewhere behind the rear seats or in the rear quarter voids! I recorded a video but can’t upload it - it wasn’t very exciting tbf...

Does it only happen when you first start the car and put it in reverse? Could it be the immobiliser?

Or, is it possible that the reverse beep has been somehow wired so you hear it through the speakers?

Does your car have reverse parking sensors ? If it has and they were after market there could be a sounder in the boot area behind the seats tapped into the reverse light circuit.

With the ignition on but not started you should be able to select reverse gear.

Have the handbrake engaged and boot open and see if a family member can pinpoint the sounder location. You may have to select reverse a few times to locate the sounder. The obvious ease of access place would be behind the battery cover area and up towards the back seats.

Hi, it’s an LE with (I assume) factory reversing sensors. As you say, I need someone else to put it into reverse whilst I try to pinpoint the source!

Can anyone with a GS confirm whether they have the loud beep in that video?

Ok, a bit more digging around and listening to noises, and I think two of the rear parking sensors are out. Is this a bumper-off job on the Gransport?

Thanks

As above you have a fault with the reverse sensors.

On a quite day turn on the ignition and put it into R , but don't start the car.

Put your best hearing ear to each sensor and you should hear a rapid clicking (very faint). A faulty sensor will not produce a click.

You may find that it rights itself if left in the sun, but it will return.

Alfa parts fit but look slightly different, however they are c £80 for a set, where as Masers are c£100 each.

Yes bumper off.

Also check for any signs of corrosion when the bumper is off and also under the rear lights... get the two jobs done at the same time and save a packet in duplicate labour and paint.

Thanks - I isolated it down to two sensors by listening to them earlier today. I’ve just found the rear bumper removal guide....

You may want to try to spray some WD40 on the faulty sensors. I had a BMW once, where this solved the issue
