whoever invented DPF's needs to be hung, drawn and quartered :mad:
Mine has 281.000km and still works fine.
If having them allows us to continue having diesels in face of draconian emissions laws, then we have to learn to live with them

what's the secret because mine is being a complete pain in the proverbial, if it was still legal to delete the bloody things I would in a heart beat

The secret is bin off the long life servicing, do regular long journeys, drive it like it’s stolen and take them off for proper cleaning if they become blocked. If it constantly tries to regen it will eventually eat your engine.

Did actually replace the DPF about a couple of weeks ago, new exhaust backpressure sensor, new glow plugs and control unit, did a successful regen and now got a load DTC's about particulate filter ffs, I really do hate DPF's with a vengeance:frusty5:

Certainly sounds like a PITA! They do need setting up when they are replaced, depending on what car obvs.

yup, got a local garage to set up the parameters and then run it up A3 with their laptop for a successful dynamic regen, yup i definitely hate these effing DPF's, did i mention that already

But if you have to do that, you may as well have bought a petrol. My other car is a diesel and I love it apart from the engine. I fecking hate diesel.

Got 50,000 miles on my Jag XJ oil burner and only had to regen the DPF once and that was after a long day in London with lots of stop starts and not reaching a decent speed at all. Chugged out of the city to the M1 and 10 mins later all was good.

Depending on where you got it, your replacement might not be new at all. I believe the DPFs sold by Euro Car Parts are actually refurbished (ultrasonically cleaned) originals. They are generally just a honeycomb filter so as long as it isn’t blocked it shouldn’t be faulty.

Bear in mind that BMWs throw advisory DPF codes when the ECU thinks the DPF is teaching the end of its calculated life. This has nothing to do with the actual condition of the DPF, just that it wants you to go to the dealer and spend some money.

the replacement DPF was a new pattern part from CATS2U, did have the option of Euro Car Parts sending off my original one for cleaning at £250, but thought I would just buy a new one at £300 so less off road time for the car, just odd how all good for couple of weeks and now have particulate filter warning on screen and with DTC's P14A3, 480A, 4166, 4D03,42DE and 481A :jpmad:

You seem to have a DPF blocked and low resistance faults at the same time. So P14A3 is probably the one to look at “Plausibility - Pressure reference” suggests the sensor is faulty or the pipe to the sensor is blocked.

Also, if the thermostats are not working (there are two, go figure) the engine doesn’t get warm enough to allow a normal regen.

did replace the exhaust pressure sensor, will be checking pipe connection, if fine might just change sensor in case gone faulty and keep my fingers crossed
