RADIO FAULT

evening all
QP6 2015 with standard radio has this month, gone into stupid mode.
Details ; DaB radio just changes radio channels to what it feels like, even to one's not stored in memory.
I put into FM mode and does the same thing.
I switch to SD card music ( yes I'm old lol ) and just selects what it feels like .

You know how annoying that is on a long drive.

So my question is, wtf is going on. Has the head unit developed dementia and require replacing, or some sort of software gremlin at work ??

Hopefully someone has come across this

Thought that, but nice firm click when you push it.

The SD saga also it doesn't skip to next track but like track 3 to 123 to 98 to 205. Random as ****

Are you using the steering wheel controls or is this fault consistent if it be wheel controls or direct on the head unit itself. Seen many clock spring issues on this range of cars.

Just consistent.
When the radio decides to change station I physically push screen to get back to my station, and the road trip continues like that.

What's the clock spring issue BTW?

The clock spring issue is the part that passes the rotation of the steering wheel to keep the steering electrics connected. Basically a flexible joint.

They are ****. Try using the steering to try and make a link to your head unit issues. If it’s changing when you turn a certain way etc. it may be a failing clock spring make sporadic inputs.

I’ve seen radio issues, wiper issues basically anything electrical connected via the steering wheel.

Maybe start the car and while stationary, apply steering input to see if it starts changing. It usually logs a fault in diagnostics if the CS is faulty.

Other than that, it maybe a failing touchscreen which is highly likely.

Look familiar?

If you have issues with the latest Chrysler UConnect 8.4 system, you can potentially clear them up with a soft reset. This should resolve small issues with features like Bluetooth® connection and navigation without wiping your settings:

  • Turn your car into “run”, but leave your car parked.
  • Press the volume button and tuner knob simultaneously.
  • Press and hold for 10 to 20 seconds.
  • The touchscreen display will flash the Chrysler logo and go dark,
  • When the dark screen returns to the Chrysler logo, your system is reconnected.

How to Reset Uconnect®: Hard Reset

A soft reset will retain your settings, but a hard reset will not. So keep in mind that a hard reset will revert your system back to factory defaults with no customization.

  • Press the temperature up and down buttons simultaneously for five seconds or more.
  • When a menu appears, scroll to the option to reset to factory defaults.
  • Wait 30 seconds while the system reboots.

I reset the uconnect in my Alfa Giulietta and it rebooted in Dodge graphics, it look some Googling to get it back so go easy.

<tangent> Are there any upgrades for the U-connect in the Giulietta's? Mrs C's has no Nav or Carplay and although I can add a screen, a factory swap might be simpler

I’m going this route, it has to be the one with the rotational knobs bottom left and right, I expect as you have no nav yours is the smaller one with the knobs half way up the sides like my other Guilietta

This is a piggy back, like the GT add ons, as opposed to a full replacement like I did for the Ghibli?

Looks ideal, though.

It is and in my opinion this is the best route to go. You retain the oem system that you can flip between that and the CarPlay/Android Auto interface so they operate seamlessly as two separate entities.

Yep totally understand it. I opted for the alternative because it takes the heavy lifting away from the phone. My call. Not right for many others.
