Apologies for geekiness, if you ask questions on Blakes 7, Hitchhikers guide or any other geeky UK space drama he knows as much **** as he does about Dr Who

So let's change the theme there have been many attempts at the world land speed record but successful attempts at the water speed record are few and far between, many who try and fail pay the ultimate price.

So who holds the current world water speed record and what is it currently set at?

OK here is the answer, the current record is 511 km/h (318 mph) - achieved by Australian Ken Warby in the Spirit of Australia in 1978.

The shocking fact is that with an approximate fatality rate of 85% since 1940, the record is one of the sporting world's most hazardous competitions. Two official attempts to beat the 1978 record have resulted in the death of the driver; but despite this there are several teams working to make further attempts. The other fact is of that everybody who has travelled faster than 300mph on water other than Ken has been killed in their attempts.

Caldy999 correctly identified the country then next question is yours
