QP5 coolant leak (rear)

Luckily it let go on my drive ....

Seems to be coming down at about the same location as the vertical metal plate




Could this be anything other than the well known sleeve over the transmission that connects the x2 sides of the engine?

Anything I add to the coolant tank dumps out the car immediately if that's any symptom to take into account.

Time to find some time and whip the plenum off I guess.

Anyone got a part number for the 8x plenum gaskets ?
I've found the hose(s) I'll replace if is them.

Yes thats the one I was referring to

Lucky for me (?) It was indeed the expected hose , failed on the underside :



Lots to clean up before I put it all back together , dirt everywhere.

Rub your fingers around the outside of the rear corners.

I had to remove the right hand banjo ,no way I was getting it done in that space !

Done several and it’s a pig of a job. Well done it’s not easy that one.

top job. Why a flexible section? Connecting between heads which are pretty fixed. Could it have been a two piece solid pipe joined with olive /compression joint?
Might even motivate me to get the replacement V8 fitted to my Range Rover. You have my admiration and sympathy after many hours draped across the top of similar space with aching arms dangling ape like behind the engine. Plenty of stuff to vacuum out of the vee usually.

The later engines (or US market? ) had this pipe replaced by a different piece.

Later engines though I believe.
Even later revisions don't have the cross over pipe altogether. That's from my research this past week.

4.7’s don’t have it either.

Remember Stevo on an SM xmas do a few years back went up in a cloud of steam. Same pipe on his 4.2 GT

The other longer one that tees off the branch that the pipe of dooooom is on, we ordered a couple, still plenum off but its not as stupid of a job as Mr Doom pipe. We did redo yours whilst we were in there and replace the other pipe that goes from the recirc pump to the bulkhead. AKA belt and braces, they are not expensive, I suggest anyone doing it, does all three:
