So only had the car a 2 days and probs already :(

Anyone had this before? I'm guessing garage will want to replace the air bag at significant cost???

Any tips / advise appreciated!

Thanks

Hi Nick,

How's the battery? A drain can sometimes cause all manner of warning lights to come one and although a reset can clear most of them the airbag warning needs a trip to a dealer (or perhaps a well-equipped indie? ... someone else on here will know for sure) to clear it. This is a safety-precaution so that the airbag system can't be tampered with or warnings cleared if there is still a fault. In any case it need not be a super-expensive issue, if it incurs any cost at all.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

You may even find that the light goes away of its own accord. Mrs Catman's 147 does this. There's a loose connection somewhere, and when it goes off, the light comes on. After a number of restarts with a good connection, it self clears.

Thanks guys the battery seems fine and it does seem to be intermittent! I.e. I'll get back in the car after a break for another journey and it will be off but after driving for a while it might come back on again! Loose connection could be it from these symptoms I recon...

Light seems to stay on permanently now :( I'll have to get it looked at next time it's in the specialist... Boo!

The most common reason for the airbag light appears to be the passenger airbag deactivation switch. Visible on the side of the dash when you open the passenger door.
I had to have mine replaced and it does seem to come up in many threads. If I remember correctly its about £75 or so to have an indie replace it.
Maybe try deactivating it and se if the light goes out.
However in my experience once the light is really ON then you need a SD2 to reset.
So a trip to the dealer becomes necessary.

I would agree with that. I had a air bag light that refused to go out. Trip to independent who reset it and said its probably the air bag de activation switch in the door which is a cheap fix. Light did not return.

A trip to Carrs in Exeter and their diagnosis is that the rear near side seat airbag is setting off the warning. Does anybody know how to get to the connectors? Looks like I will need to remove the seat. A cursor look seems to point to removing the boot inners to reach the bolts to release the seat back. Has anybody done this?

I have been looking through the MY '06 tech docs I have, but cannot see rear seat airbag sensors...
I can see frontal air bag system,
passenger air bag blocking system (which is the key operated switch that has been referred to before in this thread),
Front side bag system (which are in the side of the front seats),
and window bag systems,
what year is the car?

I had a similar issue but was the side curtain airbags. Apparently the technician cleaned the connectors and all was OK.

Checked the SD2 print and it is showing the rear passenger pre tensioner as being in fault. Any ideas ??
