As you know I like a project.
2008 GT 4.2 Auto lower timing chain guide/tensioner failed and plastic guide got chewed up by the left-hand cam chain jumping a tooth and enabling valves to hit pistons.
The way forward through the dealership is a factory engine.
The Sportsmaserati way ?

Good man, Phil. Can't let these things wither and die. Breathe new life in to the beast! And keep us posted while you're at it.

Same here! What a project ! Please tell me you offered peanuts for it.....
Always like a bargain Phil.
Just got to decide which way to go with it.
One thing for sure is it's going to be more expensive than project 4200.
It's going to have to be stripped completely to get all the debris out.
Also as the valves have hit the pistons the rods need checking.
Might be easier to source a good used engine from the UK/Europe.

excuse me if this is a nooby question. Is it possible to put a 4.7 engine in? I suspect the gearbox ecu would need to be different etc?

Apparently, whilst the hardware will fit there is a big question over the software. I believe the two engines have different sensors and the can bus systems are different which, I am assured, means the engine can't 'talk' to the car properly which has all sorts of implications for the engine, various ECUs and the gearbox. I reckon the best method is to fit the 4.7 crank, liners, pistons etc to the 4200 block and then get it mapped.

Edit; sorry, I'm talking about dropping a 4.7 into a 4200. Although the same problems might still exist with the 4.2 GT.

Guy's I would rather put the dry sump 4200 engine in if I was going to change radically as in my opinion the superior engine so lol after your 4200.

Yes I agree the internals to make 4.7 capacity. It would be awesome keeping then the dry sump etc.
Whether changing the induction to maybe the Ferrari twin throttle bodies could be achieved but this would add to the complications significantly!

Good luck with the new project Phil. I have to admire the way you bring these cars back from the dead. On the plus side your getting these cars back on the road and saving them from the breakers yard. The downside is your using all the parts up :)

I know you will put a smile on somebody's face when you finish the project and release the car back into the wild with a new owner.
