Coming home from Mitcar last Sunday I got carried away on the A5 ...coming down from high speed the brakes on the old 3200GT are not very good.....pushing like bugger but no bite!

I've been though the braking system everythings fine, calipers are good, new OM discs and pads

Any Idea's Guys...

Well if your not running EBC reds sounds like servo or master cylinder but I guess you were suspecting that.

The only other thing you can try is changing the fluid and removing the pads and cleaning the guides and check the pistons are not stiff.

I've just done the brakes on my BM and I've found that EBC yellow are really rather good; good initial bite when cold and good retardation down from speeds over 150. I use Ferodo DS2500s on the spyder and they work rather well too although they are quite expensive. Newton remarked how well they chopped off speed even when very hot and the rest of the system is stock. I had a 'moment' at Bruntingthorpe when a car span off and all the cars behind stopped dead at the end of the fast straight and I had to stop rapidly from 150+ which I did with no brake fade at all. Quite reassuring!

BTW, if you do Google EBC check the dates of the posts you read; they used to be cr4p but they got new management about, IIRC, 2 years ago and they changed all the compounds. They are much, much better nowadays and, based on personal experience, I would recommend them if you are going to use them for fast road and the occasional track day.

Do you have the part numbers (FCP or FRP) for the Ferrodo Ds2500 pads that we need, Ian?

I don't, but Marios at Autoshield knows what to get as he got them for mine. As for EBC, try 01604 583344. They will be able to help.

Ah, so that Kaiser valve thing gives even more brake servo pressure...thats clever!

Thanks Benny, maybe a change of pads would work wonders...

It did for mine; the original Brembo pads were very 'wooden' and the Green Grippers worked well but could be made to fade with heavy use. The DS2500s work better with a bit of heat in them and seem to last well as well.

I have used EBC Red and they were excellent, no fade at all even under really heavy braking..!! Pagid are great but ludicrously expensive..!!

I did hear that EBC changed their compound. The reds where effing dangerous. Sure they worked well on a track when stinking hot but braking for roundabouts was dire.

I still have mine from my 3200 back in 2008 sitting on the shelf. I ran them for a week and took them straight out.

Fitted GreenStuff and they were fine.

I use these:

Ferodo FDB451 and FDB998 £35 an axle from Bedford Batteries.

I also fitted the Ferodo parts and they are quite good, although grooved disks improved my braking hugely!!! Bit noisy under heavy braking but noticably better.

I found the grooved discs noisy, but they worked well as you say. I think if the discs have sufficient holes drilled and some have less than others, then the braking is as good as a grooved disc, but quieter. The EBC Reds I used I think were ceramic and worked well on my XJR, mind you I used to keep them quite hot..!!
