Hey guys, hope your all well.

Last night on the A10 in a 40mph zone i got pulled over for doing 51.

The thing is i sped to get out of the fast lane and over into slow lane as another car overtook me but the copper pulled me over and not him.

As i pulled in i gave him my details asked why me and not him and all i got was “let’s concentrate on you sir”.

Thing is i never signed anything and they said they were going to put 3 points on my license etc.

Id like to appeal and go all the way, i know i was speeding but the attitude of the officer and not persuing the other car did not sit right.

Anything i can do?

Not a lot, you were speeding, it is immaterial if anyone else was and the officers attitude will not be relevant.

Pay the fine and move on

Oh, you had a stellar day yesterday then! At least the famous Glasgow Rangers got a victory, best not drive on the Champions League Final day just in case....

Speeding to get out another vehicles way is only a defence if that vehicle had blue flashing lights and a siren going.

Take the 3 points, if they're the only ones on your licence no-one takes any notice of them.

If you already have 9. You're f*cked!

They have, a guy I was speaking to moved I to a bus lane in London to let an ambulance past then moved back out, got a ticket , appealed and lost , they said he should've stayed where he was and made the ambulance use the bus lane

too many people panic about moving over when they see blues and twos in rear view mirror, if it's safe and legal fine otherwise they have to fooking wait until you have a safe area, I think they do say that you shouldn't mount the pavement either

Absolutely nothing you can do. Don't even waste your time trying. It will be a Fixed Penalty Notice, plead guilty, submit your licence and take the fine with 3 Points. Was it an unmarked car? If so, then you can be forgiven for not spotting the yellow/blue battenberg cake in your rear view mirror.

On a legalese note: Speeding is an absolute offence. It is no defence to plead no danger or another guy was also speeding.

He has you in the snare - that's enough for him to concentrate on to help achieve his target for the day. You were registered at 51 in a 40 zone which is above the (guidance-only) figure for prosecution of limit + 10% + 2mph = 46mph to avoid a prosecution.

People have got tickets for going in bus lanes and through red lights though I believe :(

C

Yup, I've had this too - advanced over the line at a red light to pull to one side to let an ambulance through and got a penalty when the camera was triggered.

This all reminds me of the time I overtook an unmarked police car chasing a Jag on the M1.

That time, he decided to let the Jag go and come after me sadly.

He clocked me at 98.1MPH, but I was slowing down by then!

I remember flying over the moor around Ovenden way in my Peugeot 406 (I was in a financial black hole back then) and suddenly behind a police car appeared and lit up his blues and twos, I probs was speeding and it was a bit icy, so I pulled in, and he pulled in about 100 yards behind me. Decided to stay in the car and wait, mainly cos it was cold, let the copper freeze, and nothing, 2 mins, 3, 5, a bit more, no sign of him leaving his car. Blue lights still on. So I just drove off and he never followed, that was it. Never saw him again, didn't catch me or overtake me.

Often ponder what was going on, maybe he had another call and had to go back t'other way, no idea....

I never ever move onto a kerb or pavement or into a Bus Lane or across a red light line when the Blue and Two's are egging me on to move out the way. Nope! I just sit and let him manoeuvre around me as cars behind and in front mount the pavement/kerb/enter bus lane and edge forward over the red light stop line and trigger the camera and enter a box junction and get nabbed by a camera surveillance unit out to nab some b4st$rd who enters the box junction when their exit is not clear (except of course when turning right when it is permitted to enter the box junction). The blues and twos guy can jump up and down, can stick two fingers up in the windscreen which I can see in my rear view mirror - but I ain't gonna move pal. The Ambulance guys are the most common blues and twos in my experience and the worst drivers compared to the Police. Fire Crews are not much better than Ambulance drivers - one came tearing out of a side road onto the main road where i had a green light and crashed straight into the near side of my Vauxhall Cavalier SRi company car back in 1986. The hassle between the company insurers and the local government insurer was a nightmare. Lesson learnt. Government vehicles insurance claims can be extremely prolonged bureaucratic nightmares - and they have to remember one simple rule - flashing blues and sounding twos does not give you a right to snow plough vehicles out of your way and must not encourage the driver to flout the law and compromise safety.
