We have roundsabout (roundabouts? roundsabouts?) and Detroit lefts and divergent diamond interchanges and...still, just yikes.

I remember the first public meeting I attended, many years ago, about a proposed roundabout project that would be the first in this particular jurisdiction. The engineer said, "we acknowledge there will be more accidents, but they will be at a slower rate of speed, so..."

At first sight, it defies logic. However, it is remarkably efficient and effective. Designer took a sideways look at flow mathematics. Just remember the right hand rule, give way. 1st attempt unnerving, 2nd and on, a breeze.
Mind it'll never catch on in the US or Athens, or Paris or.....

This was my experience of the one in Hemel Hempsted. In fact, it's probably quicker because everyone else is faffing around.

Had a few near misses on the Swindon Roundabout caused by confusion and hesitancy on the part of others - too much choice.

I thought that you lot over the pond called them rotaries? Best were US five way country crossroads - usually with no markings - like a Mexican standoff.
