ah the good old days when cash was king, thing of past now, i simply cant leave the house without some of the folding stuff in my wallet, my daughters carry absolutely zero cash with them, everything is on a card even if its a £1 chocky bar
It feels wrong to pay for a pint with a card, although not done that for a while.

The guy who did my rollcage was telling me that his business account has started charging him for paying cash in.

i'm afraid that's the way things are going, cash is or will be an alien word, i still use cheque books for some things, i just find it easier to look at cheque book stubs if trying to look back on payments

HSBC Bank used to charge a £1 for every £100 paid in so I never paid any in my account.

The banks still do. Usually between £4 and £6 per £1k paid in plus they charge you for change orders if your taking cash out.

However that still works out much cheaper than card fees of around 20p per transaction plus a percentage of the total which varies by type of card debit card , credit card and amex being the highest.

Yoof of today want to use their card/smart phone to pay for everything from a £1 transaction upwards.

Its the reason small businesses often have a sign up saying £10 minimum card purchases.

The sneaky thing the banks did was transactions upto £30 on card used to be free for the first 2 years after they introduced the pin less payment to get people using it. Then they started charinging the card fees on all transactions.

my local pub (when it was open) used to run tabs and then encouraged debit card payment to avoid cash charges and also allowed cash back for the same reason
