That’s at the museum, isn’t it?
I’m not sure where the pic was taken, I didn’t see it in the Ferrari museums in Maranello and Modena, it was for sale in 2015 apparently. It was a one-off for setting speed records on the Bonneville Flats. Some more pics and info in the article below. It looks very different from the various angles.

The photo you posted was definitely from the Ferrari Museum in Maranello. Here are my photos of the car in 2014 on the Maserati Centenary Trip!IMG_1260.jpegIMG_1259.jpeg

But that’s not the same car is it ?
It was a one-off so it would be the same car. It just looks very different from other angles. It wasn’t there in 2012 nor in 2022 when I visited so it must have been on loan in 2014.

Michele Alboreto taking delivery of his 288 GTO in May 1985.

There is a story about this, apparently the engineer who handed it over told him to stay below 4000 rpm for the first 1000 kms. Alboreto was a bit put out that the engineer didn't think he knew how to look after an engine. A month or so later after it was "run in" Alboreto noticed that when cruising at 4000 rpm in top the speedo was reading over 250 kmh, basically the engineer was saying just keep it under 160mph for the first few miles ;)

They also built 6 288 GTO Evolutione’s, nowhere near as pretty as the original though. A lot more umph from the engine though. From 400BHP to 650BHP - must have been a beast.

Thankfully things have improved massively on the safety front since 1962 at Aintree.

This was a support race to the F1 Grand Prix!
Just use an inverted VX4/90 as your apex.FB_IMG_1699354147054.jpg

Even when racing Mk2 Jags look sinister, never mind sat outside the Shepards Bush Metropolitan & Provincial Banking Emporium with the engine running!

I definitely need to own another old Jag before I pop my clogs.
