I think it's to do with currency exchange and the pound against the dollar. Other than that yes 60% of the pump price is tax, also known as being shafted. What will they do to keep revenue up if we all had electric cars which can be charged up at home ?

The rate now is round 1 dollar 40 ... about four years ago, it was also around 1 dollar 40.

And if the price goes up when the exchange rate goes 'bad', then shouldn't we also see it coming down when the pound sits more favourably?

I'm with Mr P on this one.

But hey, it's a capitalist world, and if we over-regulate then it could lead to recession and economic crisis - right?

one question,

if you owned the oil company what would you do.....
it is the tax on petrol that makes it expensive......

I guess it's similar with boats and fancy cars, it's the fuel you think about most but that's just a fraction of the running cost when you take stock of services, insurance, maintenance and depreciation. That gas is probably the least worse bit.

Yes indeed, but this part of the equation is a mostly tax gathering operation....can't escape it and its in your face every week!

2 x 400ltr tanks, easily enough range at half full to get from Falmoth to Gurnsey and fill up at .55p a litre. That makes you feel like you've won!

Surely Slim the |Marine future lies with Turbo diesels especially over here , i had petrols taken out and twin volvo's turbo's put in my Princess a few years back , made the world of difference £££s wise filling up with very little difference in performance , especially if you do a spot of fishing occasionally , red diesel is sooooooooooooooooooooooo cheap

Lewis......the oil companies are the good guys...
P

Hmm, don't know about that... oil price isn't really dictated by oil companies, it's a combination of what prices OPEC set and what the traders are doing! Oil is risky, gold is safe - price of gold is very high right now which means oil is low, but it's all artificial and at the mercy of the markets. Not a simple 'supply and demand' thing.

Anyay, I have a company to run :)

...meant in the context of getting it out of the ground.......as regards the price then its in the hands of 3/4/5/6/ other groups who finally determine the at the pump price.....not the oil companies by themselves.
