Parking brake imbalance

Hello all

Just had an MOT fail on parking brake imbalance.

36 kgf (left) / 290 kgf (right) - imbalance 88%

Is this likely to be an easy fix and can it be done by a generic garage or am I in specialist indy territory?

Thanks in advance

It looks like one side is seized and needs to be freed off. In theory a simple task with plenty of scope to get more difficult.
Thanks. Seems sensible.

Does it require anything specialist or can I try my non 'mas' local garage or does it need diagnostic tools to force it to do something?

Strangely it failed on the brake test tool but passed when the certificate was generated so at least it's only an advisory so gives me more time to get sorted properly!

I suspect it's get the wheel off and see if you can wind the shoes off and manually clean. Might want to be a little careful about driving it. Your disc will get a tad on the warm side and there's a moderate chance the shoes will delaminate and jam everything up....

The process will be wheel off, caliper off, undo bolts for the disc and if it comes off, you can take it to bits and give everything a clean. If the shoes are tight of the disc it might not come off easily, but it’s standard stuff. No diagnostic tool needed.

Might be no shoe left or detached as per normal. Order a set from autodoc and only use parking brake for the mot.

Don't unwind the brake using the tool in the tool box. You'll need a diagnostic gizmo to wind it back.

I just fixed mine. Used the Park Off button and the pads were released. Mine was the actuator that pushes out the shoes was seized. I had to gently hammer it apart, then cleaned it up and put a bit of copper ease on it and all good again.

Just occurred that this is with the EPB activated (Probably) so left is not getting correctly applied. Might be the cables from the module being stick as well. Need to get in there, really

Happy to report it simply required adjustment nothing seized at all. Panic over and princely sum of £60 spent.

I bought the handbrake shoes just in case but haven't needed them so if anyone wants them happy to pass them on for nothing (as long as postage is covered or collection (York)).

Thanks again all

I'm just about to buy 4 new handbrake shoes. If yours are still lying around, I'd be happy to buy them from you.
Thought I'd ask before ordering online.
Thanks
