Oil Pressure warning

Hi Guys,

A word of advice please, I took the 3200 out for a short run to refuel and go to the shops today. When I stopped in the shop carpark the low oil pressure light came on, I revved it gently and the light went out, but the gauge did not go all the way to the normal 5 bar. I dropped it back to idle and the light came on and so did the low pressure warning on the dash.
I shut it down, went to the shop and when I restarted it was fine. Is this something I should worry about? Is it a sign of a failing oil pressure sensor? Normally the gauge is either steady on 2.5 bar at idle or 5 bar when moving.

Final point, yes, there is plenty of oil showing on the dipstick.

Cheers

I reckon its the sender unit mine failed on the 4200 its an easy enough fix and eurospares keep them.

I'm having a similar problem with mine. However, when hot and idling at traffic lights, if I switch the heated seats and heater off the oil pressure moves up from 0 to 1.25 bar. Moving the hood or opening the windows drop the indication from 2.5 bar to less than 1.25 bar. Russell at Autoshield changed the sender but the indication stayed the same. He then put a mechanical gauge on it and when warm was giving 48-50 psi at idle and at 6 bar at 3000rpm. All things considered, im pretty sure it's a gauge/indication problem.

Same thing happen to my 3200 as well... even the car is warm, it could appear when I was not pressing the gas pedal, but not really very often. When it happen, I just press on the pedal to increase the oil pressure again to 5 bar and it goes off. Sometimes, the situation may last for 5 seconds and it goes back to normal again; sometimes, it's just a flash and goes off... checked the oil and there is enough and it happens even after changing oil and oil filter... Haven't have a in-depth check on why it happens....

Mine was fixed yesterday; it was a duff soldered joint on the sender wire to the gauge. It was re-soldered and the oil pressure is back to being perfect.

Good news Ian.....had Autoshield found many like that as the root cause of dodgy gauge readings or?

No. Apparently mine is the first that is down to something other than a dodgy sender. Typical!
