Used to be – not so long ago, even – that if you wanted something exotic and sporty with four doors, your choices were largely limited to the Maserati Quattroporte. Maybe the Bentley Continental Flying Spur, if your budget and tastes veered more towards the statesmanly. But these days, buyers have more choices in the form of the Porsche Panamera, Aston Martin Rapide and even the Jaguar XJ Supercharged. And while Maserati reportedly has a pair of new QPs in the works, for those still enamored with the current model but hoping for a little extra kick, Novitec Tridente has something in store for you.

Novitec who, you ask? The Dutch tuning firm massages all manner of Italian automobiles – like the Alfa 159 and Fiat 500, for example – under its unadorned name, but may be more familiar to exotic car aficionados under the Novitec Rosso label, the division that tunes Ferrari models. A couple of years ago, the company launched a unit dedicated to tuning Maseratis, and these are its latest releases.

The upgrade package can be fitted to either the Quattroporte S or the top-of-the-line Quattroporte GT S, bolting a supercharger, intercooler, new intake manifold and fuel injectors and a remapped ECU to the 4.7-liter V8 to boost output up to 590 horsepower, a stout 160 and 150-horse boost over stock, respectively. A new, electronically adjustable sport suspension is also fitted with 21-inch modular wheels and Pirelli P Zero rubber, along with some discreet aero bits and a variety of interior upgrade options. The result? Try 0-62 mph in 4.6 seconds and a 183 mph top tend.

I like Novitec.....But I would imagine a supercharger will change the noise of the QP and take away some of it's character and for me the noise is one of the big plus points.

its says with the extra horses, 0-60 in 4.6, that's 0.1 sec quicker than a GS, does not seem worth it...what is the standard time for the QP?

0 to 62

Matt,

According to their website Maserati claim a 0 - 62 mph (0 -100 km/h) figure of 5.5 seconds for the new Quattroporte and 5.3 seconds for both the S and GTS models. These are fitted with the ZF gearbox with torque convertor. The Maserati handbook for my 2006 Duo-Select QP claims a fractionally quicker sprint of 5.2 seconds.

Regards,

Paul

0 - 60 doesn't really tell you anything...It's the extra slug of torque through the gears that is a better measure. What does it do to your car through the gears on your fav road....

looks alright for a Novitech, i normally hate this company, look at their F430 and you will see why, bloody awful.

nah, keep the GS! - handles better than the GT, supercharger plus big brake kit will cost less... you know it makes sense

Mille Miglia looks a bargain, 5K entry for 2 people, would love to do it one day, not sure what car though, be fun to do it in a Abarth 850 although it would take me about 9 years to complete the event.

Thanks Paul. So what do we think the supercharger will do to a GS?

well, if we assume a GS at 1660 KGS (Full Larini will lighten it by 20KGS?), and 550BHP, then the BHP / ton is 331.

The Ferrari F430 is 326BHP per ton, and goes 0-60mph in 4.1 seconds.

TVR Tuscan is 338 BHP/t and gets there in 3.8 secs

The Supercharged Holden weighs in at 1799Kgs with a BHP/t of 283 and that gets to 60 in 4.5secs

Aston Martin DBS is 1695Kgs (510BHP max) - BHP/t is 306 and it gets there in 4.2secs

So, I reckon it'll be much closer to 4 secs... not that you'd count in the real world... but you'd bloody well feel it...

hmmmm.... :saifi: or :Suicide: ???

Would you though and does it really need a supercharger? I've started to think that if you want a faster car buy one thats faster to begin with, I could spend best part of 20K on my GTA and have a 3.8 litre Supercharged conversion with bigger injectors, valves, strenghtened internals, ferrari derived throttlebody, etc. that'd give me around 400 bhp in a 1300KG hatch but how much of it would be useable and your stressing the components to the very edge of what they will do so lifespan will be shorter maybe introducing incremental engine rebuilds every few thousand miles for the rest of the cars life.

And it'll still just be a 147, albeit a fecking fast one.

shortened lifespan for the engine, yes - although note sure about the need for a rebuild every few thousand miles.... the F430 did OK with another 80 odd horses (ther scuderia has 500, is there a significant difference in the internals I wonder?) - Based on the BHP / ton increase I think the difference in perceived performance would be quite substantial.... I'd certainly settle for "just" a Maserati at the end of it! I'd be interested if anyone knows of "added Superchargers" in Masers / Fezzas that have proved reliable in the long term... it's probably a bad idea, but it's quite seductive! :p

From 4.7 to 4 flat, **** yes, you would feel the difference, that is knocking on Lambo territory.
