Noisy torsion damper...

Any advice would be welcome...

So I had a dig around the eurospares diagrams and learned a new technical term for the wheel at the end of the crank that drives the auxiliary belt. My torsion damper seems to be a tiny bit wobbly, not sure if it's just at low temperatures as I've only noticed it at startup.

It doesn't seem to be an immediate problem, but I don't know anything about it, so before I disappear on a 2000 mile drive round Spain, does this thing normally create big issues?

Chris, I have a spare one if you need it, I will need yours back though as its a part if my coffee table project.

Timing case will have to come off which will be a bit of a squeeze as there is not much space there.

Stuck my hand down the front once the engine was nice & cool this morning and the bolt holding it in place was loose. Tightened it hand-tight, but don't want to strip any threads, so does anyone know where I can find the torque setting for it? Or do you think it's ok to tighten by feel?

Marios and company last had it off a couple of months back for the timing cover leak, so I'll try to get in touch with them too.

Well, nice easy fix but I feel it should be thread locked and torqued down so you will need to release the tensioner, I would get Marios to do it next time your that way.

I'm in France at the moment, going to take it to the local place from the list that Frank posted a while ago, it's only 20 minutes drive away. I'm sure they will be able to get it sorted quickly enough.

The mechanic is making a tool to get a 36mm socket into place with enough clearance to get it tightened properly. Saves taking the fans out.

These guys like cars

All done. Serge and Gèrard were very helpful and enthusiastic about the car. Gerard had to machine a 36mm socket and the wrench so they would fit between the radiator fans and the bolt that needed re-fitting. He's worked at a Ferrari dealership as a mechanic for years, and has seen the same problem with these cars before...apparently they had a tool to do it there.

They work mostly on restoration of older cars, and had a nice selection of Alfa,Fiat, MG and American beasties in.

If you're ever in the west of France and need some assistance, make sure you contact them.

I showed them the sportsmaserati web site and they were very pleased to see their place mentioned on a British website : )

They know a couple of the maseratitude members, mentioned it when I showed them where the list came from.

Many thanks, Frank for putting that up, saved my bacon!
