....urban myth has it .....one owner who obviously was pretty well off and not too concerned about the whole maintenance thing ran his 4200 for 3/4 yrs....did 50K odd miles........not serviced once.......didn't do it much harm apparently!!!

Frank,

OK, would you do that, I would not and I think the guy must have been too well heeled to care, I care.

By the way, I might have found another car. At a dealer what would a major service cost and the cost of a clutch on a 4200 which is at about 70% currently, so I think needs doing soon?? I reckoned on about £3k?

Cheers

I know Rob......neither would I.

Annual service at an indie typically £500...major £1K...though you can do a check on supercarhub to get quotes.

As for a clutch....days labour plus parts.....reckon on £1.5K....plus release bearing and or flywheel if shot....add another £5-600 for both

Frank,
Thanks for that, just tried car-hub and no result, must be sleeping. I think a main dealer service, say annual + belts, would be at least £1500 and my reckoning on the clutch was about right, but did not reckon on bearings and flywheel. When the CC clutch gets to 70% how long have you left before you need it doing, roughly??
I'm trying to get to knock off dealer prices from what he wants for the car!!

Cheers

Definitely factor in the clutch........could go at 75% worn or 110% worn the SD reading is a bit plus or minus 20/30/40%....plus depends on the PIS point...others know more about this aspect Rob as I believe this can be tinkered with.

Andrea off here runs that web site...it might take a few days to get results back

Frank,
Thanks mate, Andrea's site just came up no result, I'll try again later. I think I have my figures sort of right, I just have to use my honest and sincere charm to try and get the price down to what I want??
Cheers
