Yes I have the report £300, very comprehensive and a few issues to resolve on the car, so I now have to talk to the owner and get his price down, or pull out and find another. Just costed up by Russell at Autoshield and it's a few grand??

No No No, I gave the guy the realistic figures but he would not entertain any reducction, so I have pulled out. The car was tired and had not been cared for. Mechanically it needed over £3K, holes in the leather work and the bodywork needed some looking at in places. I worked it out to around £8K to get it back to tip top, but then I could not be sure that something was not going to pop due to skimping over the last few years. I suppose a lot of cars out there could be like that and you don't know until you get them. In reality this was a bit of a dog that I would have restored, but was not going to hang myself out to dry.
So I am back on the hunt, there are a few that are interesting, quite a few dogs out there, but I will not just buy anything. I am thankfull I got the inspection, with the HPI it stands me at around £320 altogether, but I would rather lose that than a whole pile of cash trying to work miracles.

Sorry Bob, I thought you were reacting to my bit of the thread, Ah well!!

Frank, yes I think I have done the right thing. The guy has been on the phone making further offers like a new set of Pirelli's, but I would still have all the other stuff to sort out and the car would then stand me at more than it's worth. So I have again told him no.

Stick to your H&Hs .....;).....Rob......better to spend an extra grand or two and have a great car rather than grief for slightly less money......:)

A well sorted car will have those additional invoices adding up to much more than the work needing done now when its 6/7 yrs old

I think you are right Frank. There will be a car out there for me somewhere, I just have to find the right one. Even cars that seem to be priced right, you have no idea what is going on underneath, unless you get an inspection. If I had bought this car, then had to do all the work to bring it up to spec., it would have cost me around £23K for a 2004 4200 with 59K on the clock, now that's a joke!!

When I bought my car the previous owner had spent about 3.5k with receipts. These were the only receipts I had. I managed to get copy invoices from 2008 until 2011 and these came to 13k!!
